Favorite Plane You've Never Been On

Tue Jan 18, 2000 1:07 pm

What is your favorite aircraft you have never travled on. My choice would have to be "The Concorde".
Preferably a British Airways Concorde. I would like to fly from LHR to JFK and get there befor I left.
My favorite plane I have been a passenger on is a L1011-500 TWA just befor they retired them. After getting of an MD80 it seemed huge.

Favorite plane I haven't been on : A330-200. It looks so damn nice in the Aer Lingus, and Swissair liveries.

Favorite plane I have been on : United 767-300ER from JFK-SFO. Excellent flagship service.

The aircraft I like the most that I've never been on would be the Boeing 777. I love it even though I've never been on it. I also like the A340, but I like the 777 more. The favorite aircraft I have been on though was a Cathay Pacific A330. It was brand new too!!!

Been on 40 types.... I long the most for aircraft which are quite impossible to catch (as a farepaying passenger), like the DC-8, the VC-10 or the Caravelle (Gabon Express is reported to start scheduled services with two ex French Air Force Caravelles. Does anyone know anything about that?).
But I feel very lucky I 'had' many other oldies, like the 707 and 720 of MEA, a Viscount and a Reeve Electra.
nobody has ever died from hard work, but why take the risk?

What I would do to have been able to fly on a Boeing 314 flying boat, A Martin Flying boat clipper, A super Connie, a YS-12, a L188,

But mostly to have been able to ride on a B-314 would have been the height of life. Imagine....

Hi MEA-707

re Gabon Express. A friend who is doing consultancy for Air Gabon confirmed that they still operate two Caravelles (he saw one last month in Libreville) . On Domestic routes , to Franceville (Sp.?)

I am also dying to fly with them! if you get more info i would appreciate if you let me know and of course vice versa!

Any Airbus A330. Beautiful, graceful bird.
After that it would have to be the Triple 7.

I'd love a chance to fly as a passenger on a 717, MD-11, L-1011, and the 328JET. I'd love to fly a Lancair IVP (pressurised, high-performance kitplane), F-14D, Cirrus SR20, Learjet 45 (love the cockpit), and the Bombardier Global Express (not only is this thing one of the best looking aircraft flying, it has what's possibly the most advanced cockpit flying).

As far as planes I'd like to fly in...some are impossible dreams...like the Briston Brabazon and Vickers VC-10, as well as the Tupolev TU144 Charger. The Concorde and the Ilyushin IL96-300 are more realistic.

BOAC VC-10. Around the world flight with their typical British arrogance. My first choice. Second, S-42, with Capt. Musick at the controls.

does anyone remember the huge Tu-114 four engine turboprop from the 1950's(USSR) with two contra-rotating props on each engine..now that to me would have been the ultimate flying experience..also i like the electra..i think i was born just a little to late..missed all those great planes, including the bristol brittania and the vickers vanguard..ahhh, nostalgia..please dont let the world become nothing but 737ng's....i will lose interest in aviation real quick..thank god for the regional airliners to keep things interesting..........

I guess one regret is that I never got to fly on a VC10. I have seen them in the colours of BOAC back in the early seventies at Johannesburg International, but we always flew 707's in those days and I never had a say in the matter.

I would probably also put the Concorde high on my list, just for the experience of going supersonic, but then one can go in an English Electric Lightning for similar money and even reach mach 2. Thunder City's web site is still under construction, but I'll post a note when it is up and running.

I would also like to go on a Tu-154.

Hi there

The Lokkheed Constellation! Wow that must be a hell of a ride.
Also as acvitale mentioned a Boeing 314. Or AN225 (on the jumpseat!). Or a Sukhoy SU 34 (includes a toilet!).
I've flown nearly all existing types of western build passenger aircrafts.
From DC 3, DC 4, DC 7, DC 8 (KLM), Convair 990, DC 10, 743 (SR), 720, 727, 707, 737 and 744 (SQ, MH) and 772.
And yes! travelling Business-Class in a KLM MD11 was truely great. Real fine down-to-earth treatment by true professional F/A's.
But my most memorable flight was in a 744 SQ in the new 1st Class!! What a comfort.
I wish I had some zillion bucks for affording all flights in 1st-Class.
The new SR 1st-Class must be a real topper!!!!

Greetings

The Lockheed SR-71 "Blackbird".

I'd pay $20,000 cash right now for a 60 minute flight at mach 3+ at FL90+.......if they where selling flights that is.

Like Activale, I would love to fly in a propliner - those Stratocruisers and Super Connies were so elebant and luxurious. Any propliner would be welcome, from a Trimotor or DC-3 or Convair 340 to a Martin M130 or Shorts Sandringham to a DC-7C. And, yes, I musn't forget the Tu-114 that Rjnut mentioned. In the late '50s and early '60s, it was the world's largest production plane and from what I have seen, its dining area was as luxurious as that of the mighty Boeing 314 Clipper. (The Tu-114 coupled the wings and engines of the long-range Tu-95 with a sleek, long passenger fuselage. The plane set speed and endurance records that were broken only by the later Boeing 707-320B pure jet. The Soviet Air Force had a VIP transport that was basically a Tu-95 with windows [anyone remember the designation?].)
