No they sure didn't, but I did see a picture of an A340 painted in their colors. I saw it years ago and was never able to find it again...bummer.

I'd be surprised if they didn't consider ordering MD11s at one time, before the problems with them were known. They were sure dedicated to their old rattletrap DC10s, so the MD11 would have made a good replacement for them.

After hearing the problems the MD-11's had I would not want to fly in them. Fire/Pilot error brought down Swiss Air Flt 111 over Nova Scoita in 98.

Common sense tells you that the PTV's wiring needs cooling. From a manufacturing standpoint, WHY put insulation that is suseptable (sp??) to fire in a passanger aircraft.

CO had considered the MD-11 at one point, as well as the A-340 (and even had some orders for the A342 until Gordon Bethune became CEO.

A former Boeing executive, he dumped the Airbus orders and signed an exclusivity contract with Boeing, going with B772s and B762ERs for the longhaul fleet.

CO did have A342 models (from Schabak) at one time, plus B763ER models (Wooster), as they had options for that type that were converted to the 772.

As a little side note here, but CO did ordered 767-324ERs. 5 -763s were assembled, but for reasons unknown to me CO never accept delivery on them. Also the A340s CO ordered were assembled as well, but again CO didn't take them. But that time Gordon Bethune was on board, and he told Airbus "never mind".  Wink/being sarcastic Regards.

Never. The only tri-jets Continental ever operated were the Boeing 727, the DC-10-10, and the DC-10-30.

The DC-10 that was fitted with winglets was actually a testbed for the MD-11 winglets. CO did it at MDC's behest. The 767-324's are flying with DL now if my memory serves me correctly.

No, they never did.
The only MDD tri-jet with winglets in CO service was a DC10-10, used by MDD for testing a DC-10 type aircraft with winglets.

You beat me to the punch, United_Fan. Delta is not the only operator of a 763 ordered by Continental. North American operates several of them, I believe. Delta operates only one 763 ordered by Continental. Bo BTW, all, Continental placed orders for the ER version of the 763, not regular -300s. All 763s originally ordered by CO are Boeing 767-324/ERs. Also, Delta only operates one of those 767-324/ERs, N394DL.

The MD11 sure would have looked nice in Continental colors. Of course the MD11 looks nice in just about any colors.

Imagine how the L1011 would have looked in CO colors. It definently is quite debatable whether that would have looked good or not. A CO L1011....
