R Fare On British Airways

Tue Jan 27, 2004 12:51 pm

I was searching the web looking for a business class ticket from JFK to NCE and I found a great price, but there was something very strange. The leg between JFK and LHR was on a "R" fare but on the business class cabin on R/T. I thought R became discounted economy after the Concorde stopped flying. Does anyone know anything about this? Is this a computer error?

R is indeed a discounted economy class fare with BA...

Strange!

After the end of Concorde R replaced L as the second lowest economy fare. however there are some strange through fares from outside the UK which utilise R as a discounted J booking class not really sure why.
I am looking into it for you and will be back shortly.

I often travel on a business restricted ticket in Europe with BA and have noticed that amongst the fare breakdown structure there are several 'R' characters on their own, one under the other, alongside the cost breakdown of the ticket, however immediately underneath this section is the 'actual' fare class which is usually 'I' for me, however can also be 'C' and 'J' depending on how restrictive the ticket actually is.

Flyba - I thought J was used for Club World only? Have you also seen it in Europe? From memory, I think I have flown on C (unrestricted Club Europe), D (Discounted Business) and I (most restricted Club Europe) in Europe but never J?

GBOAC - sorry your right - I believe 'J' is Club World only. Out of Heathrow I usually see 'C' on the tickets for Club Europe however I usually seem to get 'I' out of the regional's such as Bristol and Birmingham.

The point I was trying to make was that the character 'R' is present often on the fare breakdown of these types of tickets and to the untrained eye, the booking class (which is only given a line) can easily be overlooked by the myriad of restrictions/ no restrictions which follows in the breakdown.

well, thank you all for your insights, but today I went back and checked the proces again...and I no longer found it..So I guess it was a temporary thing..
The fare was
JFK----LHR R Business
LHR----NCE Y Economy
NCE----LHR Y Economy
LHR----JFK R Business

All for the incredable price of 1750. Oh well.

Which site did you use?

My understanding on BA's NYC flights is that the only 'classes' in Business are J, C ,D, I, and I stand to be corrected!

First is F, A

WT+ is W, T

WT is Y, B, H, K, M, R, V, N, L, S, Q, O

Per Ardua ad Astra! ........ Honi Soit Qui Mal y Pense!

You can't forget Z for First, P for WT+ and X for WT, all of which are BA Miles redemption classes.
