Add Ariana Afghan and many other former Soviet Airlines.

BTW its Aeroflot, not Aerofloat. Big grin

Actually, Northwest and KLM both do have PTV's in international business class.

Southwest, America's most profitable LCC, does not have PTV's. And passengers flock to their planes anyway.  Smile

"Southwest, America's most profitable LCC, does not have PTV's. And passengers flock to their planes anyway."

Because not offering IFE reduces their overall costs, which can be passed onto the consumer in the form of lower prices and thus carry more people. (Because airline prices are elastic, if WN reduced its prices by 10% more than 10% more people would fly.) Most of WN's flights are around 90 minutes in duration, so IFE has only limited appeal anyway. The only real option is to offer IFE, in the form of PTVs, but make passengers pay for it if they wish to watch it.

Some corrections and additions:

- Aeroflot has NO PTVs on the B777
- Dragonair will refurbish the A330 interiors (will soon offer PTVs)
- KLM has PTVs on the B777
- Northwest has PTVs in the new A330

Some major airlines without PTVs at all are Air New Zealand, Iberia, LOT and Malev. There are many more, would take too long to list them.

Good decision, Trekster! If you want to go to LAX from the UK, almost every other carrier offers PTVs!

More corrections:

I've used PTV's on KLM 747-300s and Northwest 747-200s. That would be impossible, wouldn't it, if they didn't have them.

Worldperks, then you have flown in WorldBusiness Class. KLM's and NWA's B747 classic did/do NOT have PTVs in Economy.

Udo,

Of course. I said International Business Class in my first post, yes? The original post didn't specify.

Just a question: What weight do PTVs add to a large aircraft and how much extra wiring and energry do they require?

Anyone know how much a decent PTV would cost for a typical 737?

Air Canada have NO PTV's on any aircraft in Economy class. They do, however, have PTV's in their A330's A340's, 744's and some 767's in Business Class (J Class)

All of Lufthansa's long-haul fleet currently offers PTV's in Business and First Class.

Exactly...Phaeton just beat me to it...Lufthansa has had PTV's in all long-haul Business and first classes for a long time! Just economy that they are lacking them. Would you guys actually not fly in an excellent airline like Air New Zealand, or Lufthansa just because they don't have PTV's in Economy?  Insane

LHSebi

if an airline with PTVs will fly me on the same route for the same price, Lufthansa and Air New Zealand will not be seeing my money.

Last time I checked, I dont see Lufthansa and Air New Zealand being that much cheaper than alternatives do you? Its all about quality of product - the consumer wants value for money - for me, and many others, PTVs increase that.

Its quite simple, and not a contentious issue in any way.

Perhaps not in Economy Class, but there are certainly PTVs in First Class an Intercontinental Business Class on the Airbus A340s (-300 & -600) and on the Boeing 747s.

Scf158:

SWISS has PTV's in all classes on their A340 and A330. The MD11 featured them too, but they were removed after the SR111 tradgedy.

American 757's don't offer them I don't think. I'm planning on flying to the carrebean on AA b/c they own that area and I'm really not looking forward to flying not only in a 757 but a 757 with no ptv's and isnt the seating 3-3? Man it's going to suck.

Tokolosh,

To answer to you question, 2 tons on a 744 ! I have asked that question to Air France when they were refurbishing the 744 and asked why they didn't put PTV's in all the 744 fleet, they replied that the cost is prohibitive for the moment and that it would add 2 tons to the aircraft with all the wiring, 324 screens, and boxes under the seats !

Happy Flying,
