Brazil Sets Deadline For Varig/TAM Merger

Wed Jan 28, 2004 5:51 am

This merger has now been the subject of speculation for - hopefully - the longest time, because - according to a Reuters report - Brazils main anti-trust agency has now set a deadline of 10 February for the companies to decide whether they want the merger or not.

FINALLY!!!!! This has now really been going on more than long enough...

RE: Brazil Sets Deadline For Varig/TAM Merger

I am sure they are not going to merger, for one simple reason:
Those companies are flying in code-share on domestic routes and that agreement made profit on the local market.
International operation is something that never created losses for Varig.
TAM has only two (Paris and Miami) international flights.
Both companies seems to be running away from merger. They simply don't want to.
"Air Brasil" is still a soft dream.
