What Is The Story Behind This Image?

Thu Jan 29, 2004 4:12 am

I am making a bland assumption that this played part in a promo.

Does anyone know the story behind this?

While it'd make sense for it to be a promotion, it could very well just be an airport vehicle for American!

A witty idea of the American Airlines is the ground vehicle on the basis of VW New Beetle which was formed like an aeroplane. The conversion in the model is based on VW New Beetle of the German firm of Wiking. The vehicle was disassembled in all individual parts. As the first the addition floodlights were removed with a Sharp knife in front in the sides of the ventilator and the European rear license plate-holders on the smaller American version were reduced with the help of filler. The wings and the Vertical stabilizer consist of thin plastic sheets and were stuck to the vehicle. After the lacquer finish in

from a german website.. guess its just a "special" ground vehicle!!

You're right, it was a promotion of some sort--I vaguely remember since I was working for AA at the time. I think there was a sweepstakes involving that car. "Road Rally," I think it was called. Maybe someone else remembers more...

the license plate looks like it is from New York I think. Wierd to see it in Iowa. Of course- Iowa could have a similar style as New York's!

Cool! I saw this little AA Beetle in Boston in September 2001. It was in the city centre doing a promo tour, I think it was promoting the American Airlines website (www.aa.com). It looked great! I remember watching them pack away after the promo and the "wings" and "tail" detached and were packed away in the boot (trunk) and it drove off.

Cheers  Smile

Are you kidding me? We all thought AA was just having financial 'troubles.' This is proof that their fleet has taken on a new type of craft...possibly a tax-deduction.  Big thumbs up

Don't mind this post, I'm almost drunk.

Cheers!

Well, it doesn't happen often enough so I'm enjoying every bit of it! There's no flights out tomorrow, no bills to pay right now, and no wife awake enough to complain about how silly an "airplane website" is!  Big thumbs up

Great night indeed. Cheers!
