Which Airline Would You Fly For This Trip?

Thu Jan 29, 2004 8:52 am

CLE to PVG.

AC would connect in Toronto and Vancouver I think?
NW would connect in DTW and Tokyo?
UA would connect in SFO.

Take these factors:
Comfort
IFE
Food
Planes
Overall Airline performance.

Personally, I would go on UA. Depending on when you go, the flight from SFO to PVG is sometimes offered on a 744 and at others, on a 777. I know that most UA 777s have PTVs on them (the 744s do not). If you do take UA, try to see if you can get seated in Economy Plus, with 36 inch seat pitch, otherwise it is 31. Also, I like the food on UA's transpacific routes.

Also, SFO is an airport with a new International Terminal, and it is really nice. I know that DTW and YVR also have new International Terminals as well though. In terms of connecting from the domestic and international terminals, you will have to take the monorail and go through security, but it is only 1 tram stop.

Also, the fact that you only have to go through customs once (in each direction) would be a benefit to not stopping in Japan or Canada.

So, I think your best bet would be on UA in terms of convenience and airports to change planes at, and I've had a good overall experience with them, but I must admit that I haven't flown on NW in a long time, and never on an international flight, but I like Air Canada as well.

CLE-ORD on anybody
ORD-NRT-PVG via JAL

I'm afraid AC/NW/UA just don't cut it for me longhaul.

I'd agree with the last post as well. Your best bet would be to get over to ORD, especially with the amount of flights out towards LAX and SFO. Then, China Eastern would pick you up all the way to PVG. I'm not that big on AA, outside of their AAvantage crap, but they do offer some good rates with good service from CLE to PVG.

Hope this helps! Cheers!  Big thumbs up

What about FF program? A trip to PVG will place you within striking distance of elite status...

That's true too. If you have an AAvantage membership, which takes about two seconds to sign up for, that trip itself will put you ahead of many others. It may be worth it in the long run, especially if you plan on flying AA again in the near future.

Oh well, hope this helps.  Big thumbs up

Cheers!

I strongly recommend avoiding China Eastern and Air China. This opinion comes from experience...

I've never flow either airliner yet. What did you experience with them, for my own future reference?

I'd vote UA based on past international travels with them, I still think they have a good product. Just my opinion though!

Why do I care Tony? Because if you don't take the trip, well then who gives a damn!?? The reason I said that is because recently some idiot posted about taking a trip and that price didn't matter, turned out he wasn't even taking the trip! It was totally pointless!!

1) AC would be overnight connection at YYZ.
2) No UA non-stop to SFO. So CLE-ORD-SFO-PVG or CLE-DEN-SFO-PVG.
3) NW has best connections thru DTW & NRT.
Uncle SAN at your service!
