Longest Passenger Aircraft.

Thu Jan 29, 2004 5:06 pm

According to my calculations, the A340-600 is the longest aircraft with a length of 75.3m beating the 777-300 (73.86m) and the proposed A380-800 (73m).The 747-400 is fourth with a length of 70.67m.

I know the Airbus A346 is the longest at the moment. Virgin Atlantic cabin crew always say they like serving on her, it keeps them fit with all the walking...

You are both wrong. The longest one ever was the HK-1 Flying Boat aka Spruce Goose, which had a total lenght of 150 meters. Big grin

Fritzi, you need to check your figures, the Spruce Goose is about 66.75 metres in length, shorter than all of those aircraft mentioned!

Is the cabin of the A340-600 also longer that the one of the 777-300?
I have no clue how much space is lost for other parts of the cabin aside from the space used for passengers (cockpit, etc.)

Yes the A346 is so long, that when ...
- the sun is rising in the front it's still dark in the rear
- the plane flies a turn, passengers in a rear window seat can look into the cockpit from the outside

it is not true though that
- there are two arrival times for forward and rear cabin
- the captain gets roller blades for his "walk around"

Have a good one

If MD were still making planes this day, they would have had the longest one for sure. They were masters of stretch, with almost every jet they built.

I have actually heard from friends who are crew on B757-300 that fish-tailing is a common problem on this aircraft type. Considering the length of the A340-600 and its slim cross section compared to other wide-bodies (777 / 747), I would imagine this to be a problem with this aircraft as well. Any comments?

OD720 beat me to the punch, but you know that the fine folks at Douglas would have stretched the DC-10 , and MD-11 thru a time zone, if possible!

Fritzi,

I think we have to get a new thread on how it could happen that you didn't notice the lenght in feet, why you didn't double check your reply & if this did happen in the past & probably will happen in the future & how to prevent his.

I think we have to open a thread on this with everybody having the chance to give his/her opinion on this matter.

 Acting devilish

Get the hell off Fritzi's back, Rw77447! I have made the same mistakes misreading lengths for an aircraft many times, and that doesn't make me an idiot. This is my comment to you: Either you should learn how to have a goddamn discussion in this forum or you should get the hell off of it! Pissed

LZ-129 Hindenburg

Length 803.8 ft. / 244.3m

That's well over three times a 346.

Diameter = 135.1 ft. / 41m or roughly the same as the wing span of a B757.

Easy, easy, dear Thrust. If Fritzi doesn't get his daily quota of friendly bullying on this forum, then he won't feel well.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Rw77447: You give me proof that there are no mathematical mistakes or any kind of errors by anybody on this forum and I will back you up, But clearly that link that Fritzi put up on here did say.......
..........via barge, to a static display within the Dome. The Spruce Goose has a gross weight of 136,000 Kg (150 tons), a total height of 24 meters (79 feet), a total length of 150 meters (320 feet), and a wing span just over the length of one football field..... So it was not him that made the mistake, it was the website, and we are told to back up our posts with a link or source and he did just that!

Was the spruce Goose even a passenger aircraft? I always thought it was cargo or undecided. For what it's worth, An 225 is 84 m. but not a pax A/C

Thanks for calming me down a bit (after a few hours) Big grin, Prebennorholm, quite amusing, your last remark. I'd like to personally apologize to Rw77447. I owe it to him, and friggin' big. Your knowledge of ths Spruce Goose is no doubt correct....definently agree that a website like that would have a serious credibility problem (sigh)* At least you gave the correct info. In so many ways, at least you helped Fritzi see the errors of his ways Laugh out loud  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

The A340-600 better enjoy the time that is given to it throughout this years to be the longest. The Airbus A380 will assume that role in 5 years or so.

The slogan "Mine's Bigger Than Yours" is on a VS 346.

And yes, cabin crews on VS do you like to announce the fact...Perhaps helping people realize why there seats were so cramped.  Laugh out loud
