Northwest Airlink and American Eagle may join Delta Connection and USAirways Express at Gainesville Regional Airport. The airport hopes to lure both airlines. Northwest Airlink would provide regional jet service to Memphis and American Eagle would provide much coveted non-stop service to Miami on ATR-72s.

This is might will have goes on that flight to GNV soon and exactly not sure when will able to begin nonstop out of GNV to MEM, DTW, MIA, and anywhere into the cities. Is that those load factors was doing well with Delta connection to ATL flight.

This would be good for the college kids, its so long to take that bus from Gainesville to Miami. I consider Gaineville a college town, there nothing much in that city other than the University of Fl.

Interesting developments.

I thought that the CoEx proposal of 3 ERJ a day (split between IAH and EWR) was a bit ambitious and wouldn't work. I see that American has dropped the daily EMB-140 from DFW from the mix.... A connection to Miami is more realistic, and is something Gainesville has wanted to reinstate since losing its intra-Florida service years ago.

Definitley. There is a lot of push for the Miami service not only from local students (I don't have any facts, but I would be willing to bet there are more students at UF from Miami than any other single city), but also local travel agencies. On the MIA-GNV market, the traffic is there. The problem is that the market is very price sensitive. Hopefully American Eagle can make it work if they go ahead with it.

I have a friend from MIA that goes to UF and yes there is a huge population of Miami students at that school. If you dont have a car there is basically no other alternative than the 8+ hour journey on the buses .AEagle should step into the mix.
