Skyservice Delays

Sun Feb 01, 2004 2:12 am

Would anyone know why Skyservice YWG-Puerto Vallarta was delayed nine hours yesterday? It was scheduled to leave at 18.00 yesterday but did not leave until 03.30 this morning. It was on the ground at YWG for close to three hours!

Thanks

Robert

Well, YWG is always under bad weather conditions, at least this time of year. Have you checked the weather forecasts there? If nothing looked bad at that time, you could probably call the airport and find out why. Here's the contact information if you don't already have it:

Winnipeg International Airport Information
(204) 987-9402
Email: wia_info@waa.ca

or:
Winnipeg Airports Authority Information
Telephone: (204) 987-9400
Email: reception@waa.ca

Hope this helps! Good luck finding the cause!  Big thumbs up

Those bastards!  Big grin

I don't know. But just to add to the thoughts in a recent thread about Skyservice aircraft doing tech stops in YHM, this seems to be happening frequently lately, with tech stops in YHM and YYZ, including crew changes from what I hear.

Hey B741

The western based 57's have been running late the past few days. The flight yesterday was already 6 hrs late due to LIA from two days before. Holguin flight was supposed to leave yesterday morning at 0600 and got out at around 1230 so therefore the afternoon PVR flight was also late. As everyone knows when you hit a 10 hour delay on a charter airline it can take days to get the aircraft back on schedule.

Not sure why it took 3 hours for the turn.....The cold weather in YWG hasn't helped the on-time performance either. Pretty tough working in -40C without the wind!!

Cheers

3 hours at the gate? Well, get this one:

On January 16th, my JetsGo flight was scheduled to depart Dorval (YUL) at 21:50 to Santiago de Cuba (SCU). The aircraft arrived at the gate 3 hours+ before departure time. We ended up leaving at 23:00. Normal operation, no mechanical problems.....and on top of that no announcements made by JetsGo staff at the gate. If at least they could keep the passengers informed of the delays!

It's not only Skytour that has been having delays here in Winnipeg, but Northwest and Air Canada too. It has alot to do with the pressure density of the air with the current temperatures we have been having. The pilots are concerned with performance of their aircraft in the bitterly cold weather and the fact that the glycol itself is even geling up pretty good too.

Last night Skytour flew in two extra 757's from Edmonton and Vancouver to make up some lost time that the two 57's we have write now are behind on.

And don't worry about the cold without wind, the air no end to wind chill here, it feels like -50 celcius with the wind...aparently colder than some parts of the artic cirlce. So basicaly avoid comming here at all costs..it's like a winter wasteland with the cold  Big thumbs up.

Blair

Also, B741, do you shoot out here in Winnipeg? If so we should meet up sometime, normal photographers are from plentiful here.

I found a METAR in an MSN conversation I had a few days ago when you could freeze water in the air before it hit the ground.

METAR CYWG 300400Z 32002KT 15SM SKC M39/M44 A3039

Temperature -39 C and Dewpoint -44

WOW

No, I don't shoot but I follow movements with the airband and sometimes spot.

I just got back from a 5 day pairing in the West. YQR/YXE. At 0500, check in time, it was -57 degrees with the windchill. Firstly, it was so cold that the de-icing took for ever, then the aircraft pushed and something happened technically due to the cold ( engine ), the aircraft had to return to the gate. The other 757 coming from YXE to YQR could not open the door, due to the fact that the door was frozen. Air Canada cancelled their flight to YYZ that same morning. All this and more....resulting in what is termed as creeping delays. Flying out of the west to the southern destinations gives long duty days, due to the fact our door was frozen, duty day turned out to 16.5 hours When crew goes over their duty day, they have to be replaced and sometimes they have to be positoned in from other bases. This is what has been happening in the West. Regards-
