Politically Incorrect Photo's

Sun Feb 01, 2004 10:30 am

I did a search and no luck. I went through the photo archive and found a couple photos that I think are politically incorrect.
These photos' are in Cuba

You may ask why the last photo is politically incorrect. Have you ever seen an American flag in Cuba.

The next one is one the verge of being politically incorrect. This photo is at JFK

There are charter flights to CUBA on major airlines. Not a problem.

In 1981, Iraq was an US alley. Did the Iraq-Iran war begin yet?

UA AA and CO all have charter flights with there aircraft to Cuba from mostly MIA.

Canada has nothing against Cuba. Thats probly a normal flight to Toronto or something.
I could find many pics that say MIA but they are actully FLL. The USA even gave Iraq Weapons in the early 80's. None of these photos are wrong to me.

The CO airliners could have been diverted. Or maybe the 737 had to make an emergency landing. Interesting.

The CO probly is just from MIA. They have those flights Daily. My mother and Grandfather even took the flight. AA and CO dont only fly to Havana but other cities in Cuba too like Camuguay. These are normal aircraft in Cuba.

The AC DOES have scheduled flights from Toronto, three times a week, according to my Jan 04, flight guide.

I always thought there was a band between flights from US to Cuba. I know Canada has flights to Cuba. The thing is many americians go to Canada to go to Cuba and I always thought there was a ban on US ( Not The Company) Airlines from going into Cuba vise versa. That is why I thought when Castrol came back from a meeting in Asia he stopped in YVR to refuel. I know he stayed in YVR for a couple hours where he stayed in a hotel to get some rest. I think this was after an APEC meeting or something.

Yes Castro cant fly in USA and Cuban Airlines cant. Planes can. They are charter flights so it is the an american Airline. Even Genral Aviation planes can fly to Cuba but only MIA-HAV is allowed for genral aviation aircraft.

Speaking of Iraqi Airways, I remember they had a CTO (city ticket office) in San Diego back in the late 80s, which I thought was strange at the time.

US flights not only go to and from Cuba many times a day as "charters" but dozens also fly through Cuban airspace everyday on their way to Latin America. They must get permission from the Cuban government to do so. But the Cubans also get fees from US carriers for this permission. It is called overflight rights.

AirTran did MIA-HAV for quite a while as well. And did a few BWI-HAV flights. If they're approved government charters then there is no problem.

I don't think the Iraqi Airways photo is "politically incorrect" given the time frame. The Iraq-Iran War had begun and Iraq was an ally (oh how the times change).

American citizens are technically barred from visiting Cuba, but really all you have to do is take a flight to Mexico (as many of my friends have) and then to Cuba.

Trust me, AA flys to Havana. A slip of the finger and your bags are delayed getting to you when the agent accidently sends them to HAV (Havana) instead of HSV (Huntsvlle).

I thought Bush recently said that Americans would be fined if they travelled to Cuba unless it was for a good reason, and they had to file it with them to get permission?

I am sure some Iraqis would think that pictures of C130's landing at Baghdad International Airport are politically incorrect as well.  Smile we should get a few of those up on here.

In 1981, the US was one of Saddam Hussien's biggest allies. The 747 at JFK isn't politically incorrect. The picture was taken during very different times.

I wonder when that video of Saddam Hussein and Donald Rumsfeld shaking hands was filmed? Probably the late Eighties before Saddam invaded Kuwait 1990 / 1991.

That picture of the Interflug Tupolev from East Germany at Düsseldorf was taken on the 5. of May 1990. The Berlin Wall came down on the 9. of November 1989. Was it already possible for Interflug and Lufthansa to fly between East and West Germany.

My understanding for many of the issues brought up here are:

- Americans can travel to Cuba but cannot spend any money there unless they have approval from the Treasury Dept. They are encouraged to take their Birth Certificate for entry into Cuba as a stamp in the passport will raise some eyebrows at customs/immigrations on the way back home.

- Until a few years ago, Cubana could only fly over a few northern states before entering Canadian Airspace on their scheduled service to Canada. Now they can overfly the United States as a straight shot. They pay money for these overflight rights but we pay the same when American planes travel to Cayman Islands or other points in Latin America

- Canadians (and as far as I know, anybody except US Citizens) are not barred from bringing Cuban products back with them. You can buy Cuban Rum & Cigars at many places in the Carribbean and as long as you're not traveling back to the United States, they're yours for the buying

Correct me if I'm wrong/imprecise on any of these items.

Exactly, my Interflug timetable from 1987 has special trade fair flights from LEJ to DUS, MUC, STR, FRA and HAM. Equipment was mostly TU-134 but on FRA flights also the IL-62, both planes in an all Economy Class configuration.

LH had also two daily FRA-LEJ flights during the Leipzig trade fair, the LH flights were operated with a 727 in a First and Economy Class configuration.

If those flights are politically incorrect maybe the airlines should set up a sudsidury to operate to cuba, like British Asia Airways (BA), KLM Asia (KL), Air France Asie (AF) or Swiss Asia (SR) did to serve Taiwan so as not to offend the Chinese government, given that the latter regards the former as a breakaway province.

it is because why would Air Canada send an airplane with a Canadian and Americian Flag together and send this plane to one of the only countries where they hate America. I am not saying the photographer is Pollitically Incorrect it is just dealing with political news and how if someone saw this photo and was during a political problems.

Methinks someone needs to tell this guy the definition of "politically incorrect"...

per Dictionary.com:

1. Of, relating to, or supporting broad social, political, and educational change, especially to redress historical injustices in matters such as race, class, gender, and sexual orientation.
2. Being or perceived as being overconcerned with such change, often to the exclusion of other matters.

None of these photos are politically incorrect. If there were pictures of "Negro Airlines" or "Air Flamer" (no offense intended), then it would be different.

If anything, these shots are just odd juxtapostions of airline and place.

Cuban missle crisis. Since the fact if Castrol goes in to the US he will be arrested. Since the fact that Cuban cigars are so valued since there is a bar agianst trade with the Americians and that the fact that they are communist. Not bashing Cuba, I love it there, good cigars.

I agree with the last. The way the situation stands now, and has stood for several years, Cubans love America and wish that Washington would eliminate the sanctions. An American and Canadian symbol in Cuba can only mean hope for the citizens who see it...now they can believe a little more that more our of citizens will come and that their nation is not forgotten.

Well K maybe if Castrol was at the airport and he saw Air Canada plane with that flag symbol he may get a little upset. I do agree that many Cubans dislike their own country and are willing to swim 50 miles and risk their death to become an illegal alien and then go to California and get a drivers' license

Why do you keep calling Castro "Castrol?" Have you talked to a Cuban lately? I have a few Cuban friends I met in college...their opinions on Cuba and America varied widely but I think it is a little off base to state that Cubans hate Americans. Why else would you have people risk their lives for 90 miles through the Florida Straits (very choppy, perilous open sea) if they weren't thinking they were coming to a "better" place (no, I don't think the US or any country for that matter is better than any other).Have you flipped through a travel guide on Cuba lately? I've never been but I understand that most of the tourist trade is actually done in American Dollars. Even Sadam Hussein was carrying US dollars for crying out loud!
