Icelandair BOS-Halifax?

Sun Feb 01, 2004 11:10 pm

For the past couple of days on www.flightarrivals.com I've seen an Icelandair flight between Boston and Halifax. Can someone shed any light on this flight and why it exists? I think all Icelandair flies out of Boston are 757s, which surely can make to hop up to Iceland without having to stop enroute. Anyone have details about this flight?

Out of interest what would be the flight time from YHZ-KEF? Can't be that far...
Sit back, relax and enjoy your flight with us today.

BOS-YHZ is 1 hour and YHZ-KEF is anywhere between 3:45 to 4:10 flying time pending on winds

Figuring that the average cruising speed of a 757-200 is 850km/h, and that BOS-YHZ is 666km according to the Great Circle Mapper, it'd take about 47 minutes.

Does anyone know the departure time on this flight? I'll be at BOS today. I'd love to see an FI 757F. I remember when they used to fly 737Fs here back in the late-90s.

Speaking of Icelandair and YHZ, I wish the passenger service would return to YHZ. Any ideas if that will ever happen??

YHZ wasnt a great performer, yield wise.
However I really think Icelandair can make a go of it with Canada - if it served Toronto. Especially as Air Canada/SAS have ended their Toronto-Copenhagen flights, I would think FI could easily jump in and fill the void.

Thanks for the warning Jetset but I work at BOS so I only rush to the airport when I'm running late!  Smile At any rate, it hadn't arrived when I was heading into work and had probably left by the time I was leaving so that'll have to wait til another day. Plus we get a ton of FI during the winter with them operating charters about 3-4 days a week to the Caribbean and to Cape Verde during the Summer.

At any rate, that's one service I didn't even know we had!

Slightly off-topic, but last winter, FI repositioned their KEF-BOS flight up to MHT for a few months. I don't know much of the details, but it would usually stay about 4-5 days, and would always repo back to BOS for the flight to KEF. From what I heard, they parked it up here to save money, which would make sense, and there probably wasn't any room at BOS to keep it for a few days either. I miss that gorgeous bird coming in here!  Sad

Those were some of the Caribbean charters. They would fly them in the day before the flight, operate the flight, it would arrive that evening, spend the night then fly back up to MHT before starting the whole cycle over again. Since then, I believe FI has just found it cheaper to keep the plane here. It's not unusual to have two FI 757s on the ground at the same time (if we're lucky, one's a 753).

Just for the record, a 757 can make the hop from Boston to Keflavik without a stop enroute.  Big thumbs up

I have flown KEF - BOS last November and the flight time was 5hrs 10 mins, while CO use their 752's on a lot of non-stop trans-atlantic routes to the UK like many people know without a stop. so the a/c wouldnt have a problem
