Air France's Current First Class Product

Tue Feb 03, 2004 9:24 am

For some reason I can't use the search function, maybe it's just my computer. Anyway, I'm flying next month on Air France from MIA to CDG on flight 95 which is 744 service.

I've looked at pictures of their current first class pictures which seems decent but I was wondering if anyone here has first hand experience with this product? I'm looking for any information in general such as how their meal service is (good, bad, DON'T EAT) as well as the seats. I know they're not the new suites, but the look comfortable. Also, the IFE... is it any good?

I've looked at their website and I must say, the information they provide is rather minimalist. I apreciate any help you guys can give me. Thanks.

I flew BKK to CDG on a 744 and CDG to BOS on a 330 both in first class. The seats are side by side doubles except for a center seat in the 744 cabin, fully reclining flat beds and comfortable to sit in. On the 330 they are same type a little tight, but still comfortable.

The food was good, first time I've had lobster on board an aircraft. The service was excellent, but I was the only passenger in the first class cabin CDG to BOS with 6 seats in the cabin. The flight from BKK was a night flight and only had 8 or 9 passengers in that cabin with I think 15 seats in the cabin and I slept most of that flight.

I cant really remember the IFE except to say the ground camera was great.

If you can do it I would defiantly fly up front the crew ratio is great and ground service better. I'm not flying their business product until July so I don't know how much their first class product is than that, but it was definitely better than Delta's Business Elite and I love Delta.

i've flown the mia-cdg flight a couple of times, though always on an a340. i did hear that the 744 would be used, but i don't think there will be much of a difference, particularly from the perspective of one of the higher classes.

with that said, i would not fly first class and would instead fly business class (les classes affaires). i believe air france has a superb business class product, while their first class is inferior to british airways and virgin (not to mention cathay and singapore). my flights in air france business class were fantastic: food was outstanding, service top-notch, and the seats were more comfortable than comparable business classes (though i hear ba's new business seat is excellent too). plus, if you can book through delta, you may be able to get the tickets for considerably less (i saved about $2k each time).

The AF B744 are equipped with 13 seats in First Class, located in the "nose" of the Jumbo.

The First Class seats are THE SAME on all the a/c of the fleet : A332/A340/B772/B744.

Unfortunuaty, next month, you won't have the chance to fly in the brand new First Class seat, as the B744 won't be anymore fitted with First Class. Only the B772ER & B773ER will offer a 3 Class service, while the B744/A343/A332 will be equipped with 2 Class only : the new Business Class and Economy.

I don't in the future if the First Class product will still be offered on the CDG-MIA route...

They may very well be the same size seat but the cabin is much more narrow on the 330/340 compared to the 744 making the whole cabin tighter.

I've flown VS in their current J class and found it to be better in almost all regards except seat comfort and when on it for over seven hour seat comfort matters. I cant wait to try the new F class on AF or the new J class on VS. I think VS may end up ahead of them all.
