Find Out How Full NW Flights Are Here...

Wed Feb 04, 2004 4:56 pm

On Northwest's website, there is a "new" option that will allow you to view the seatmap for any particular flight. This may have been available for sometime, but, I just noticed it today.

Enjoy

Uh... viewing the "available seats" tells you NOTHING about the loads.

JAL777,

Having worked for NW.. the general rule is about plus or minus 10% in terms of accuracy of a seatmap in the NW system.

Exceptions for large groups without advanced reserved seating

AA has the same type of thing, although it can rather *difficult* to use at times. (They require both flight number and routing info...either of which could easily be obtained.)

Actually, this feature is not new. It has been part of the NW reservation system for confirmed ticket holders to view and change selections since it was Expedia powered. But the feature is now viewable to those without purchased E-tickets.

You can see the same thing for DL here:

http://www.delta.com/home/index.jsp

Just enter the departure and arrival cities and the date and time. Then look for the particular flight.

Hey RareBear!

How do you find that option on Delta? I can't seem to find anything that shows you how many seats are already taken.

Where have all the tri-jets gone...

Those charts are not that accurate because of weight and balance. If you look in the future, say a month or so out, you will notice that most planes like the ARJs and DC9's have a full last row or two, and nobody in the next few rows up. This is ALSO for NW benefit to jockey the differant size DC 9's around per load. They are good at that. The sched may show a D94 for a "40" and change to a 30 or 50 on flight day. In reguard to W&B,those seats are usually released a week or so before the flight. So this I was told by a NW res person a few months back...interesting people these airline employees...they have lots of little tips we would never know about..
On the DL site, click on the view seats to the right of your pending schedule.
Oh yeah..you have put in a pending sched first, like TPA-JFK and date it. THEN you get flight selection with view seats to the right. Its pruurrry slick!
United is similar.

1. Click on the link in my post. It is the DL Reservations site.
2. Enter the code for the departure city.
3. Enter the code for the city you are going to.
4. Enter the departure date and approximate time. It will only show flights
after this time
5. Check the class of service. The default is "deeply discounted". If you are
first or business class, then change the setting. The default will show the
whole coach section.
6. Click on "Go" in the blue box at the lower right corner. The next screen will
give you a choice of itineraries.
7. Select the flight you want to check seat availability on and click on the
seat under "View Seats".

This will show you the seats that are already taken, the ones the airline is
holding for Medallion passengers, and the seats that are available.

Doesn't seem to show seat maps for international flights.

NW only preassigns 60% of their seats... therefore, any NW seat map (except the one on NWA.com check-in, only available 36 hours out) is deceitful. Best bet is to check fare bucks via ITN.net, etc......
