Longest Flight: L.A. To Singapore

Thu Feb 05, 2004 6:20 am

CNN is reporting that the longest scheduled flight took off tuesday from L.A. and flew to Singapore. The flight takes 18 1/2 hours.

What airline operates this flight and what A/C do they use?

that must be one high yield route considering the plane has less then 200 passengers and must have a crew of almost 20 including 2 flight crews and is buring 18.5 hrs of jet fuel in 4 engines.

It is that new ( ?) flight from SQ and the A340-500B are used......
I am wandering how long the flight will continue. It is to long for me and a stop on the route ( Tokyo or Taipei) is a great and better alernative...

The inaugural flight SQ019 from Los Angeles to Singapore took a flying duration of 17 hours and 38 minutes isntead of the scheduled 18 hours 40 minutes.  Big thumbs up

The plane could support more... but they have to plan for the flight to New York/Liberty using the same aircraft as well.

The A345-500 SQ19/20 reached to it's destination earlier as expected. That's a good start.

Why would you want to spend 24 hours fliying just so you can walk around like a zombie at Narita for an hour and a half or so. What does that do to improve your health. Especially when the Econ seats thru Narita offer you a 31/32 inch pitch. I would much rather get it over with in 18 hours non stop if I can enjoy a 37 inch pitch and a wider seat.

Way to go SQ. How about bidding for LA -Joburg non stop!!

For a brief outlook on the diagram, go to http://www.singaporeair.com and click on the diagram : "Making the world a smaller place" featuring the Airbus A345 Leadership. You will then be directed to another window where you will see the approximate flight paths of SIN-LAX, LAX-SIN and SIN-NYC-SIN.

SQ plans to launch later this year an even longer nonstop flight : EWR-SIN, also with its A345 LeaderShip.

The plane has a 2 class config. with 64 Business (Raffles Class) and only 117 premium Economy (2-3-2 layout).

If it takes 24 hours or so to do a one-stop from L.A. to Singapore, then being able to cut that to 18 hours or so is definitely worth it. Especially if you're flying economy, you get a 25% shorter travel time AND wider seats with more leg room and a leg rest. Sounds good to me!

cheers, Ralph
