This Aircraft Made A Film With Louis De Funès!

Thu Feb 05, 2004 10:36 am

hiii Folks....  Big thumbs up

When i was 12, i saw all the films of LE GENDARME DE SAINT TROPEZ, with the french actor LUIS DE FUNÈS.

That films were very comic... he was a great actor during the 60's and the 70's.

One of those films of the "GENDARME" was titled LE GENDARME A NEW YORK (the gendarme in new york). This film talks about a police station that is going to new york to participate in a seminar... and a lot of "nice" things will happen during the trip to new york. A very comic film...

And.. in one of the legs of the trip, they are going from NICE to PARIS, to take the train to the transatlantic FRANCE (till last month the longest ship in the world... 315 meters, now is Queen Mary 2 with 345 meters) to new york; and the trip from NICE to Paris was made on a CARAVELLE III, the F-BHRN, the GASCOGNE. I didn't knew the plate of the plane, so i have to see all Air France caravelles on the database... one by one... and here he is!

On the way back, they discovered that the doughter of LUDOVIC CRUCHOT, the caracter of Luis de Funès went new york as a stowaway, he had to made her go back to france.... and her doughter disgised as Flight atendent and back to paris in flight AF017 in a Boeing 707-328, F-BHSB, "Chateau de Chambord.

Here is the foto!

Very good of you to put this topic on A.net. I always have wondered which planes it were. I can remember the Caravelle in the great Funès-movie as the day of yesterday. Thanks for sharing this info!!

Louis de Funes was one of the greatest french actors, I remember at the end of one the Fantomas movies, the Citroen DS (a great car) sped down a runway then wings came out from under then flew away. I was young and I really wanted that car.
You breathe to do good and have fun.

really Nice topic

Louis de Funes is also my favourite actor, he is very famous in France.

Recently, in December, a nice tribute to him was made on french television.

Thanks for the info

The Caravelle is the very first plane I flew on. So it has a special place in my heart.
I am glad that the Airbus family is now doing what Concorde and Caravelle should have done long ago:

Conqueer the World!

Back then some powerful US interests groups, lobbyists of all kinds just made sure these planes would have no future. They used all the tricks possible and a considerable amount of money to kill this "unproper" competition. They have completely succeeded in the case of Caravelle (how many mainstream Americans know that plane? Very few...) As for the Concorde, it had too many dedicated fans before they could destroy the graceful Bird.

Thanks for the memories!!!!

I remember as Louis de Funès entered as a policeman for the first time an airplane, the Caravelle, to fly from Nice to Le Havre, he knocked at least three times the cabin of the plane outside near the door before going through the door, just to make sure the plane was of solid stuff, then he made a grimace of half satisfaction  Sad and had no other choice than to enter the strange bird of metal.

Really funny !!!  Laugh out loud

Cheers. Kilavoud

Can't find the prior references to commercial a/c in movies--but AA CV240s appeared throughout Three Guys Named Mike (1951) and at least part of a PA DC6 or -7 appeared in One Two Three (1961)--

Ah...it was Airbus and Air France that killed Concorde. Airbus didn't want to keep maintaining and repairing the Concorde fleet due to Air France's sub par maintenance practices.

The Caravelle was a great airplane. I wish I could have flown on one.

Conqueer the World

I cannot comment on the sexual preferences of Airbus Industries

For those of you who remember this film " Le clan des Siciliens" featuring Jean Gabin and Alain Delon, the plot was a hijacking of a plane ROM/NYC to snatch a huge collection of jewelry in the belly. The DC8-55 used was a UTA one, grossly taped into UOA (United Overseas Airways !) All scenes for Rome were in fact shot at LBG...and for the supposed landing on a NY closed freeway...the runway of Chateauroux did the trick !
