Aircraft Stored In UK

Thu Feb 05, 2004 9:49 pm

Does anyone know where I could find out what aircraft are stored in the UK. I know that there are a lot of aircraft at Exeter and Southend, but I was just wondering what other airports have aircraft sitting idle.

Manston has had a variety of stored aircraft over the past few years.

"I know that there are a lot of aircraft at Exeter"

Not really "a lot" but some. I remember there being the three MYT DC-10s, between 7 and 11 Azzurra Air 146s/Avros, one Flightline 146 in BA colours, one British World ATP, etc. EXT is my 'home' airport, you see. However, I don't live near there any more, so the details above may now be inaccurate.

Not very many at Southend aswell - when I was working there a few weeks back, there was only a few aircraft.

these Being

F-GNFU - Areus 733
F-GNFH? - " "
HZ-123 - 707
a White 727 belonging to DHL I believe.

there are a few derelict planes at the back of the airfield, inclusing a Shorts Belfast.

Cheers

I know there is a field where the RAF is storing a lot of BA's old VC-10's. It might be Duxford but I am not really sure.

BOAC707 NOPE THERE ISN'T !
Currently VC10 K3-4 which are converted super VC10 aircraft ex East African and BA are in service and based at Brize Norton.
They have had a few fired and until around three or four years ago their was an airframe in BA colours but no tail that was towed mid field and left their to rot !
Remaining aircraft either scrapped or to various museums many years ago.
However they have WFU'd a few standard VC10 aircraft both early converted K2 and original RAF aircraft and they went to St Athan (Just west of Cardiff) for storage scrapping and parting out quite along time ago !
Bit off topic !

Nice picture for your sign-in name a Conway powered BOAC 707 departing Manchester either to New York or Toronto/Montreal over thirty years ago !
Back on topic their is/was a publication in the UK called Wrecks and Relics that give all that sort of information.

Thanks for the pic of BOAC 707, G-ARRC. RC was the last 707 that I operated on as Cabin Crew before retiring from flying duties! It was on flight BA935/15JUL66 flying from BOM to BEY.

The next evening I broke my foot (metatarsal - same injury as Beckham) dancing to the Beatles in the notorious Golden Bar in Beirut. I didn't feel it at the time, but extremely painful the next morning, and eventually got it corrected and plastered later in the American Hospital in Beirut.

Some kind, gay, VC10 Chief Steward took pity on me and insisted to BAHQ I should fly back to LHR on his VC10, rather than 707. BOAC at LHR agreed!

Off thread subject I know, but too memorable to forget!

Nobody mentioned Lasham yet? Accoring to the database, at least 3 Varig 737NGs, a Thomas Cook (Germany) B753 and two Azzura 737NGs are stored there.

Rutankrd;

Thanks for the "snappy" mate; and the update. I immigrated in '65 and came over on a VC-10...to bad they're gone.

Nbedele,
Yes, you are correct Lasham does have a few stored aircraft. Mainly due to the big aircraft engineering company over there called ATC Lasham. This is the same for SEN, most of the stored aircraft there have something to do with ATC Lasham.

Cheers,

Simon
