yup - starting 4/7 (i think) TED will start service from IAD to TPA, FLL, LAS, and MCO. it will replace mainline service to TPA, MCO, and LAS, and FLL will be a new destination from IAD for any UA product.

nice to see their commitment to the IAD hub, and it will be interesting as Independence gets going how these 2 play off of eachother. hopefully will be a win-win for the DC area traveller.

Great news for Ted.

Let's hope they expand it later to Cancun, San Juan, San Jose, St. Thomas, Aruba, etc...
The opinions expressed here are mine and not necessarily those of Delta Air Lines.

It wasn't going to be long before TED was going to start competing with JetBlue, eh? Oh well, only one route.

I'm sure D.C will be grateful for these additional frequencies, but these routes already do have low-cost carriers operating them. It would be nice to see TED on routes that don't have too much LCC service such as IAD-IAH or HOU, IAD-SEA, etc.

Yes, they are flying to LAS:

CHICAGO, Feb. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- United's new low-fare carrier Ted is expanding with service into United's Washington-Dulles hub. From Washington-Dulles, Ted will offer service to Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, Tampa and Las Vegas. Ft. Lauderdale is a brand new market for United from Dulles, while Orlando, Tampa and Las Vegas are existing United routes that are transitioning to Ted. Bringing Ted service to Dulles is the latest in a series of actions by United that illustrate the airline's strong commitment to the Washington, DC market.

FLL-IAD is not a new market for United. They served it in the late 1990s with RJs.

The service from IAD-FLL was served by ACA for about 1 month on Sat only. It was not ever going to be a normally scheduled flite. The route was subsidized by a cruise line.

Scott,

At the time I worked for ACA and the loads on that flite was extremely light. The average load was 10 Revenue and the rest was filled by SA's. So there was no profit in the run for ACA.

It was Saturday only (2 flights on Sa), it was not meant to be a limited run:

DULLES, Va., April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Atlantic Coast Airlines (ACA) (Nasdaq: ACAI), the Dulles, VA-based United Express carrier, today announced it will begin weekend-only jet flights from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to four destinations on May 7, 1999.

The updated schedule to Savannah/Hilton Head (SAV) and Fort Myers (RSW) will add extra flights to the existing all-jet service. Fort Lauderdale (FLL) will be added as a new United Express destination from Washington Dulles. Regional jet service on Saturdays to Wilmington, NC (ILM) will complement the regular schedule of flights during the rest of the week.

All I can say is that I.A. is going to be in major debt......opening to 50 cities!! I predict they don't make it 12-months.

You are forgetting they already serve most of them, under United Express. The only new markets will be a handful, like Miami, Los Angeles, and San Francisco.
