I've worked at MCI
. They're extremely good at removing ice and snow. It's just that there's a lot of ramp space to clean up.
Plus, those ice storms on the Great Plains can cover the ground in a nice sheet of ice in no-time.
By the way, this isn't the first time there have been skids at MCI
in short order. Back in the winter of 2001-2002, two WN
737s skidded off the pavement.
And wind conditions can be absolutley horrid. In the spring of '02 an HP
737 landed 150 feet south of runway 27, grinding into the mud and dirt adjacent to the runway. I don't know what the official cause was, but there were recorded wind gusts that night of over 50 mph, from all direction on the compass.
Those who fail to learn history are doomed to repeat it in summer school.
