Oldest Aircraft In Fleet

Sun Feb 08, 2004 10:12 am

Just wondering if anyone knew of the major airlines, which is the oldest plane in their current fleet with hours, cycles, history, etc...

Is there a place where I can find this information? Thanks in advance.

*I assume that one of NW's DC-9 has to be the oldest in the fleet  Wink/being sarcastic*

Although I don't know the exact aircraft, I know that CO's oldest is one of their MD-80s, soon to be retired.

Wouldn't airlines still using 707s or DC 8s have the oldest aircraft?

BA's oldest aircraft that was originally delivered to the airline is no less than Airbus A.320-111 G-BUSB (No. 6 off the line)! The aircraft was originally rolled out in BCal colours, but hastily repainted after the BA takeover. Delivery was 14.04.88.

However, that aircraft is pipped by 737-3Y0 G-LGTH. Although not delivered to BA until 01.04.01 it was originally delivered to Inter European on 13.04.88 - one day sooner than that A320!

So basically it's an A320 or 737 for BA. I'll opt for the A320 - simply because its sounds strange saying that a major's oldest aircraft is an A320! (Also, it would have had an earlier delivery date if it hadn't been for that repaint from BCal to BA colours).

(And a spooky aside - those two original delivery dates are my sister's and grandma's birthdays).

Kelowna Flightcraft in Canada is still flying a 50+ year old Convair 580F (C-GKFQ) on three flights daily...the a/c C-GKFQ has over 143,000 cycles and adding more and more...if you do the math over its life it has averaged almost 8 landings a day for its entire life....this has got to be some kind of record....

What about Buffalo Airlines' small fleet of DC-3s, DC-4s and C-46s... those things must be up there in years eh...

I'm the expert on here on two things, neither of which I care about much anymore.

KLM just retired the 747-206/306 fleet, the first of which was delivered in 1975. The fleetleader was [very] close to 100000 flying hours.
