Do You Prefer Cloth Or Leather Seats?

Sun Feb 08, 2004 12:41 pm

Poeple often say they prefer cloth. I'm up in the air (pun intended).

While leather has a more luxurious feel, cloth does not get as hot or cold, and it doesn't make me "slip" as much.

What do others think?

I like cloth, because leather makes your rear end sweaty if it's a long flight.

I prefer cloth - I don't want to be sitting on dead animal skin known as leather.

I'm not sure which I prefer. I have only flown on leather once. Although my ass did get sweaty, the seat was just so incredible it didn't really matter. Even on cloth, after sitting for prolonged periods of time, your ass will be sweaty.

Cloth for any type of flight. Much more comfortable than leather, and doesnt make you all sweaty.

Leather seats! I love leather. I guess my ass doesn't sweat as much as most peoples'. My couch is leather, my cars have leather seats, the only thing that's missing is a leather bed.  Big thumbs up

Leather: Higher cost ($800 avg per seat), will last longer and is easier to clean.

Cloth: Cheeper cost($500 avg per seat), stains easier, shorter life span.

Leather - Easier to clean. You can wash it with a surface cleaner..... more expensive to buy up-front, but the costs in upkeep are way down.

I've seen some pretty nasty cloth seats in the years I've been around airliners. Some dark-stained headrests after being soaked with peoples' skin oil, hair products, spit, sweat, and what not..... over and over...... ugh.

Definitely cloth seats -- they are much more comfortable than the leather ones.

I'd go with cloth...leather seems to take up more room on the aircraft...I'm convinced that the seats on JetBlue's planes take up a MINIMUM of 5" of the pitch, as compared to 3" on, say, United...

I prefer leather. It's far more sanitary; easier to clean. Cloth seats are soaked in urine, feces, vomit, and head lice and mites. Yuck!!! Leather for me please!!! I'd even prefer imitation leather to cloth.

My preference is for leather, regardless of flight length. I just love the smooth feel of supple leather against my skin, it just makes me feel so......

Cloth, most certainly. I really dislike leather, for short or long trips.

How about the velvet seats like the ones on Thai's 1st class (bluish purple one's).

744, that sounds totally shagadelic! I have yet to fly TG and would to be sitting in one of those velvet F seats. That sounds really comfortable to me. Otherwise, please give me leather. It's much more comfortable than cloth, which to me personally, cheapens the whole F experience and after all isn't that what flying F is all about....?

I really prefer cloth seats. The leather just gets too uncomfortable after 2 hours in it.

In my car I like leather. There I can fart as much as I need to. In an airplane I´d say fabrics is the choice.
As I mentioned in a similar thread some years ago, I found fabric seats having fart-absorbing abilities. Still investigating...

Prost!

After flying short-haul with Leather on BA I quite enjoyed it but I don't think I could cope with it long-haul. I would have to try it to find out  Smile

When I flew VS I didn't mind the cloth I suppose, but there is the cleanliness side of it as someone said:

Some dark-stained headrests after being soaked with peoples' skin oil, hair products, spit, sweat, and what not..... over and over...... ugh.

That really makes me feel sick. Also the beer farts being absorbed.. Yuck!  Laugh out loud

Justin  Big thumbs up

Leather for short haul, cloth for long haul... or a combination of the two, like CO and AA.. cloth back and cushion with an adjustable leather headrest  Big grin

I like pleather myself. Mostly because it's fun to say it. Pleasure plus leather equals pleather. Try it: "Pleather." Mmmmmm . . .

it depends.... if the plane has climate control i prefer leather seats, they're just more comfortable to sit in IMO. if the plane has no climate control, like the cessnas im flying right now i'll take cloth. keeps your back cooler usually. also, sheepskin is quite nice.

Leather looks a hell of a lot classier, but I would have to post my vote on the nostalgic cloth seats!

Cloth, much like pants. Leather pants are great looking, but not the most comfortable stuff to wear (or sit on).

When I see old cloth seats on an A/C I wonder:

How many times it's been urinated on or worse.
How many head lice eggs are imbedded in the headrest.
How many times it's been used as a Kleenex or napkin.

You get the idea. Leather is a little more impermeable to cooties.

- Kind of reminds me of Saddam, post-capture...

Also the beer farts being absorbed

Yep...leather is my choice...the fart-absorbing comments pretty much sealed my preference. Uggghh....I can just imagine sitting down and a previous aroma being released...enough to make me want to lose my economy class dinner...

Good ol' days flashback (wavy vertical lines)....leather seats on United's DC-10's and DC-8's...never will forget those...what a comfortable ride...

Cloth, although Leather does have the best comfort, it tends to be cold or hot depending on the temp. Cloth for me!!
