Emirates A340-300, What Routes?

Sun Feb 08, 2004 8:05 pm

Hello guys,

Emirates Airlines is getting 8 A340-300's (Ex SIA), anyone know on what routes these aircrafts will be used?

BTW: Any new status for DXB-HAM-DXB, I've heard that Emirates is seriously thinking about that one in 2004.

Greetings

EKs A 343s will be flying to KIX-JNB-LGW-PVG-PER and CASABLANCA only. All these routes are currently being served by EKs own B 777-200ERs!!!

Can't wait to fly EK from HAM to DXB.... This rumor is up for some time now... Hope that I'm able to book soon... It will probably be served by A330, all other EK aircrafts could be way to big. Interesting is, if it will be a daily service or 3-4 times a week....

In addition to the list Behramjee provided, the 343s will also be used to FRA on the morning flight, 5 days a week (daily ex-Tue & Sat).

HAM was slated to be on the list for 2004 depending on economic recovery in Germany. At this stage it would be feasible but Emirates have a bigger problem on their hands - a massive shortage of aircraft hence the deferral of some services.

I understand Emirates is currently shopping around for some more aircraft (A330s, A340s, B777s) to add to the fleet in the next 6 months so they can continue with expansion. Forward bookings across the network look very good.

If they get the additional aircraft then they will add in addition to a potential HAM service, the 3rd MAN, the DUB service as well as more flights to Africa.

Incidentally due to the acft capacity shortage Emirates will hang onto A6-EKL its last A310. This despite the fact that Peshawar can handle A330s now and hence the acft no longer being required. The retention of the aircraft will be used to boost short-medium haul frequencies. There will be more flights to Istanbul, Pakistan (spec. KHI), Tehran and Beirut. Incidentally Moscow will also see increase in frequencies.

Why isnt BERLIN, Germany been given more preference than HAMBURG??? Isnt there better potential out of BER than HAM!!!

Also better than HAM would be AMS-CPH and MADRID or BCN or GVA!!!

Why not Hamburg? It has a large neighbourhood... And it's a fact that in the northern area are more "rich" people (higher incomes) than in the west and east of germany...

Also I've heard that there is lots of cargo to carry for EK, they drive tons of it to Amsterdam to fly it to DXB....

We will see... As I'm a HAM local, I don't have a problem with their decision Big grin

They do use the 345 once a day to LGW.

Hey, seeing as they're using the A343's for medium-long haul routes, how are they kitting out the interiors? Two or three class? Or do they still have the same SQ ones?

They should acquire second-hand Beech 1900s to launch new routes to Europe, North America and the Far East.  Wink/being sarcastic

From what I recall, the A340-300s will keep the same seats/entertainment system that Singapore had originally installed on the aircraft – however, more Emirates-"ish" seatcovers have been put on the seats, and I'm sure certain aspects of the aircraft have been changed to make them more to Emirates's liking.

One must not forget that the service standards of Emirates and SIA are both extremely high – and therefore, it's not completely unreasonable that Emirates is doing little to upgrade these aircraft which are not necessarily part of its long-term fleet planning strategy.

I'm sure the ex-KrisWorld system, along with the old First & Raffles seats will do just fine for the time being.

Pearson,

Beech 1900s is a great idea  Big thumbs up. Emirates already looked into that but then decided to go for Dornier 328s to open up the new trunk routes to Dundee, Liege, Rennes and Lamezia Terma. These places are huge O&D markets, 1900s would simply be too small. As for their new North American destinations (Tucson, AZ and Dutch Harbour, AK) they will use the SWMs they got from Japan Airlines.

No, seriously, EK's choice of destinations really looks somewhat surprising from time to time. Nothing wrong with the places they picked so far, but then I have to agree with Behramjee that cities like MAD, GVA, AMS, CPH or also BRU seem so much more "intuitive" for expansion.

What is EK's average load factor at this time ?

How long do they plan to keep the A343's ?
