Air France, A Rapist?!

Mon Feb 09, 2004 8:37 am

For you Francophile types....

Here's something I've been wanting to ask for quite some time, and finally got around to doing:
what in the world is up with AF's [unofficial?] themesong?!

Are they speaking of rape?!

I first heard it in 2001 during Concorde testing, and have always wondered this.

Air France

Strange as it may seem, I still live a lie;
Caught up in your dream, take me far away, away, away!

Airrrr Franceeeee! Blossoms in my mind (in my mind)!
Airrrr Franceeeee! Leave the world behind (world behind)!

Smile me into bed, and take my innocence!  Wow!
Smash my little head, and drag me far away, away, away!  Wow!

Airrrr Franceeeee! Blossoms in my mind (in my mind)!
Airrrr Franceeeee! Leave the world behind (world behind)!

...um, anywho... someone who can explain what this is all about would be greatly appreciated for his/her trouble  Big grin

I have never heard of that song, but maybe it is one of those situations where in the translation from French to English maybe the meaning of the song got a little mixed up.

Granted I've never hear [of] a non-English version of this song---

This is French, not Mesopotamian hieroglyphics... the words/context dont translate that differently  Laugh out loud

Oh no, you misinterpreted it ConcordeBoy. That's what Air France is planning on doing to KLM and Alitalia, hence those lines in the song! Big grin

Seriously though I would like to know what connection that song has with AF and also why the heck they have those two DOWNRIGHT FRIGHTENING lines in the song... It's rather peculiar...I'm not a Francophobe and I don't particularly dislike AF the way some users here do... but those lines are downright strange. Perhaps an AF crew member or fan here could clear this up for us?

Rape is a very strong word. I'm sure AF did not intend it sound nor mean anything as you may think. I know the French are very passionate people... there is nothing wrong with that.

Just my 2 cents' worth... I hope I do not anger anyone.

Sounds to me like a poor translation from French. What are the original lyrics?

Actually translation can be difficult even with a modern language. i found this out asking my French treacher to translate something and what he told me was completely different from what I thought it sounded like. He told me that things don't always translate right. Sometimes there really are no English words for some stuff as well.

Laugh out loud ConcordeBoy, your interpretation of this song (have no idea whether it is right or wrong) is hilarious. Have not heard of this song before. Very interesting Smile/happy/getting dizzy

your interpretation of this song

That's just it... I didnt self-translate the song at all. In fact, I cannot find any French references to it at all.

The first time I heard it, it was sang in English (and that was in Paris)

Also, just about any of the websites I've seen it on (such as THIS ONE in the middle of the page) only have lyrics in English.

The fact that you would post such rubbish is completely absurd! What are the grounds for having posted such a horrid and taudry lyric..... This is nothing that Air France would publish... If you recall Air France has used Edith Piaf, and Nana Mouskouri among others for their title themes... Please provide a writer or chanteuse for this song!

ConcordeBoy, if you took more than 30 seconds to check out the site you provided, you will see that what you provided (and have implied) is utter nonsense.

Also, it's quite funny you say you have seen this on other websites, yet a search of those lyrics on Google only bring up a single site -- the exact same site for some mediocre 'band' where it is clear these are lyrics from one of their albums.

So I would be most interested to hear about where you heard this song during Concorde tests?

Or is this thread simply another way to kick the boots into the French?

Just returned from a search on Yahoo.Fr, Google, and MSN..... Nothing of this reported or speculated song and it rammerings have been realized... Please provide a source for the song....

It would appear that this topic is a "venting", or some other vendetta you might have against Air France and more so the French in general!

I fly nearly every week AF to CDG and I have not the slightest f*cking idea of what this "theme song" is supposed to be!!!!!!!!!

never heard it, or heard about it by the way
the only "theme song" I know is a kind of slow new age music with the company motto "faire du ciel le plus bel endroit de la terre"
