What Was Your First Airplane?

Fri Jan 21, 2000 8:31 am

Exactly what the title says, what was your first airplane? Mine was an Iluishin IL-62 belonging to Aeroflot. I was in seat 5A, buisness class. It was awome, It still tops my list of favorite airplanes. The flight was SVO-SNN-ORD.

PSA MD-80 Flt #603*
LAX-FAT 07/04/85

*This is the first flight I REMEMBER. My folks have told me that they took me on a United 737 c. 05/74 from LAX-FAT. I was about 6-8 months old they said.
Needless to say, I have absolutely no recollection of that flight.

Oh what memories I have, my first flight took place back
in the summer of 82'. I was 6 years old, and boy was it
an experience. We flew on an Eastern, 727-200 I even
remember it was an airplane in the white color scheme,
not silver (bare metal). We flew to Tampa, back in those days there was wonderful jet service, today, your stuck with a Dash 8 on Usairways, or connecting in ATL.
Anyway, it was my first airplane ride, will never forget
as we rotated off the ground, I was filled with excitement. My dad took a picture of me by the window
of course and to this day get goosbumps when I think
of my first airplane experience. You know, ever sence
that day, after getting a taste of the skies, your hooked
and you keep coming back deeply hungrey for more.
Man, I cant deny it, I really love to fly...dont we all. =)

Mine was a United Airlines DC10-10 "Friend Ship" Chicago-Los Angeles in August 1982. I was THREE WEEKS old! Today, I have flown on the DC10 more than any other plane, and it remains my favorite (despite its bad reputation).

My first flight was TWA 747-100 in'71 from JFK to Stuttgart (soory don't knoww all the accronyms). Like a typical 4 year old I was sick of all the waiting areas before wegot onto the plane. Funny thing was when we finally boarded I thought it was yet another waiting area! My Dad informed me that we were on the plane. Boy was I excited then. I've been addicted to flying ever since.

Monarch Boeing 720B

Fri Jan 21, 2000 9:58 am

Mixed blessing,
My first flights were on some very rare aircraft and I can't remeber a thing about them.
My first flight was on a Monarch Boeing 720B from Manchester to Malta at the age of 18 months in early 1980. I returned to Manchester on a Dan Air 720B operating on lease to Air Malta.

Hi all,

My first plane ride was on the very beautiful DC-8 (probably a -61 series). I was 14 months old and the flight was from St. John's, NF (YYT) to Toronto (YYZ).
Looking at my log book that my father kept for me, I flew on a total of 27 DC-8's. Boy do I miss those jet-age beauties!!!

My first plane ride was on a TWA L-1011 from LAX to BOS in June of '76. We went on a Bicentennial trip of Boston, Philly, DC, and Williamsburg. Our return to LAX was also a TWA 1011, this time leaving from Dulles.

My first airplane ride was in a Cessna 172. My first commercial flight was on an Eastern DC-9, although I remember my mother telling me of her flying one time when she was pregnant with me. Unfortunately, I do not remember the airline or aircraft.

It was a 727-200 from MCO-ORD. This was 6-5-82, I was 6 months old. The registration was N477DA. I think Delta just got rid of it, I just looked up the registration, and it said the owner was "sale reported".

A HS748 owned by the UK CAA which my junior school chartered for an 'experience' flight when I was 8. My school was in Stansted village, next to Stansted airport at a time when this flight was probably the only movement that day!

My first flight was on a Vickers Viscont 800 from Gibraltar to Tarbes, France.
This aircraft was a dream to fly in. Lots of legroom in economy, large oval windows, the beautiful sound of those Darts......
I flew several times on this aircraft, once again on this route several years later and many occasions on the GIB-TNG-GIB route. When this service was operated it was one of the shortest intercontinetal routes in the world taking just under 20 minutes.
The aircraft was operated by GB Airways (formerly Gibraltar Airways or Gibair) and it was an ex Air New Zealand machine. It ended its days in a landing accident at TNG in 1988. She was registered G-BBVH.

First airliner? Well, it was a Dart Herald of British Island Airways (the old one) in 1974 from Glasgow to the Isle of Man. Amazing Experience.

Seeing all these guys who first flew in 1996 or 1997 (well almost), I thought I'd add some ancient history. My first flight was in 1957 on North Central Airlines from MQT to GRR. The plane was a DC3, and I still have a photo of me boarding the plane very proudly. I flew as an unaccompanied minor, 6 years old, going to visit grandparents, and I still remember the flight very well.

It was a flight from SIN-HKG, Always remember it, my first and my worst. Very bad turbulence, and cold noodles for lunch which was on the floor after my first bite....

Was a Delta DC8 Stretch from MCO-ATL in 1972,when I was 15. I was (and still am) impressed by how loooooooong that thing was! Most memoraable par of the flight was an encounter with wind shear just prior to touchdown (well, it actually "assisted" in the touchdown!) in Atlanta.

United 727. 1974. Routing was from OMA-DEN-SFO. I remeber it being real loud. I also remeber it was the one and only time I ever got air sick.

Belonging to United. I was about 4 and used to think you could see inside the wing from inside the airplane, how strange! I remember when the flaps slid back I had a deal of a time, as a 4 year old, trying to figure out what was happening.
