Question On TED

Tue Feb 10, 2004 7:19 am

I have a question: will Ted replace the current UA flights on some of the routes it is operating or will it be in addition to the existing UA mainline offer?

Also, will Ted planes go under a different ATC callsign, or simly be "United"?

Any of the routes Ted will fly will be exclusively Ted. Ted will not operate alongside UAL on any routes.

Hope it helps,
Chris

Surely you can't be serious.

Not true. Check your schedules. There are mainline flights that operate alongside of Ted flights. If you look at the march schedule between Denver and Phoenix, that is a perfict example of the side by side operations. Mainline has 3 flights. In April those are going away, but then again, the april schedule has not been finalized.

Actually, it is true.

The only reason there will be an intermingling of United-Ted is because of the transition of these routes pending the additional birth of new Teds...

Ted's strategy is to be the only United offering on a particular route, unlike the UAX strat, which allows a mixing of UAX/mainline aircraft depending on demand.

I know someone pretty high up at Ted through someone else I know, and at least through 2004, you will not see Ted and mainline flying on the same route, if not for startup transition.

In the future, it may be possible. Early morning mainline flights for the business travelers, mid-day Ted flights for the leisure market. Would that be worth the inconsistency? Mainline/UAX run together on a market, and those are certainly inconistent products, that management is fine with slapping together...

The operating info provided by UA for TED flights is wierd - eg.

UA1445 SA 01MAY
APT ARR DY DEP DY CLASS/MEAL EQP GRND EFT TTL
DEN 0645 SA YBEMUHQVWST/- 32S 1:48
KLG/-
PHX 0733 SA 1:48

COMMENTS-
1.DEN PHX - OPERATED BYUNITED FOR TED

The flight is operating with a UA code - hence sold as a United flight, but the operating disclosure is Operated by United for Ted - shouldn't it be the other way round ? Bizarre.

JGPH1A--

Yeah the wording is awkward.

However, keep in mind all Ted markets will be priced under Ted's simplified, 6-tier fare structure.

With a comingling of mainline and Ted on certain routes while planes are being transitioned into the Ted fleet, UA will market and sell certain Ted flights with mainline configured planes.

Some customers will be delighted as they will get an F seat, albet no F service; but, expectations that this "free F seat" will be commonplace on Ted must be ruled out... And the "operated by United for Ted" is part of that clarification.

I spotted a TED AC at LAS yesterday, watched it depart, not sure where it was headed. Good luck to them..
