If UA Goes Under, Who Gets Gate Space Where?

Wed Feb 11, 2004 2:16 am

OK guys, working under the HYPOTHETICAL situation that UA goes under, who is going to expand where to fill the void?

My thoughts: CO will fill up some/all of the space at DEN, and AA at SEA. (As UA has a substantial presence at SEA, almost the entire N Satellite.)

Your thoughts?

bcainfosys,
another useless thread that has been beaten to death by the anti ual squad in here, on a hypothetical side, aa would not go guns a blazin in sea, i could see AS expand, den--co, i would hope that the city of den look at all the options after what co did back in the 90s, but this is all pointless
bus driver.......move that bus:)

The courts would get the gates to liquidate if they held any value.... They do not automatically revert back to the airport....or the first taker.

You forgot ORD. If that remote thing happens, AA will be in concorse B,C and E within 30 days . Then you push NW,AW and CO to AA's old concourse and toss in JetBlue with two gates and probably airTran with two more in the K.
And you ask what about USAirways? I dont figure them in at all.

What a waste of time even typing this. Why don't you ask about US, as that's a more likely scenario.

Even better yet, do some research on some of these airlines first before making such silly hypothetical scenarios.
And the winner for best actress is....REESE WITHERSPOON for 'Walk the Line'!!!!!!!!

I mean, Jesus Christ people; don't take it so personal. I mean, I'm not advocating their demise or anything. But let's face it, they ARE in Chapter 11, and they are far from in the clear. I was just wondering which airlines would expand & where, to fill the void left by UA.

But if that's the way you wanna play it, let's expand the question. For all those airlines who are in dire financial straights (US, UA, HA, etc...), who do you think would move in and where, to fill the empty space/markets they left behind?

If anyone is offended by this topic then don't participate. As far as who gets what, no one is in a position to really jump right in. Most airlines are trying to plan their expansion for the next upswing in the economy. If UA liquidates, there will be some general grabbing for easy stuff. Independence Air will probably try expand faster than they can probably safely sustain, thereby going out of business. ORD never gets expanded, they use the money to modernize instead.

OK, in the hypothetical case that they did go under, the only gaps to be filled would probably be more service by the other majors to Hawaii (or maybe even an LCC), maybe Virgin USA at SFO and LAX, B6 or F9 at DEN, B6 or WN at ORD (even though WN says that would never serve ORD), Independence Air at IAD. Also, no US carrier would serve SYD from the mainland US, including my favorite SFO-SYD route  Sad .

Agreed with PVD757- if you see a repeated thread or if something offends you, ignore it.
Also if UAL does go down CO should get their west coast-pacific rim destinations to increase pssenger frequency.
