Ever Been Asked And Bribed To Move Seat?

Wed Feb 11, 2004 4:06 am

Have you ever been asked to move your seat to another location and were given reward/incentive/bribe to do so except being put into Biz/1st? I ask this as this happened to me on a Quantas flight segment in June 1989 from Honolulu to Auckland. It was a very full flight and a passenger wasn't feeling well. The F/A's wanted to keep an eye on this lady and have her sit near the gallery. One of the few available seats was the aisle seat (no problem). To reward me for my move I was given a bottle of champagne of the type usually served in 1st Class!. I ended up sitting next to a couple, traveling back to Australia and got into a good conversation.

LTBEWR,

you have made the unfortunate error of spelling Qantas with Qu. This will usually annoy some of the Australians.

Cheers!

SORRY all you Aussie blokes and shelias, I meant Qantas (Queensland and Northern Territories Air Service). But my question still stands, with the corrected airline name.

LTBEWR,

thanks for the full scoop on QANTAS. I never knew it was an acronym.

I was once flying UA from LIM-MIA. I was in an upgraded (miles) seat in C. There was a man giving a very difficult time to the gate agent as I boarded. The agent came on board and walked up to my seat. She asked me if I would do UA a big favor and give up my C seat and go to economy. I knew it refered to the irate pax at the gate. I was abit taken back. I was a 1K and had boarded. I thought it was strange. She looked so helpless, this guy had really been giving her a bad time. I thought "what the heck" we won't get out of here unless something happens". She said she would give me a system wide upgrade, so I thought why not. This flight was only 6 hours and I was heading for NRT and could use it there, so I agreed. She was very appreciative. It made her life easier and I would live, so go for it.

She gave me the certificate. After take off I looked at it and only then found out it was only valid for 30 days !!!! I had never seen such a thing before. I admit I felt abit "used" and not so happy after that. But, if it made her life abit easier that night, so what! Of course my flight to NRT was more then 30 days away so it was useless.

I have been asked to change seats so people could sit together and did. It made no difference to me. I reacievd a very kind thank you from the people and the FA. Reward enough!

My roommate was forced (at least that's what he said) by AS to change seats with a mother and lap child because there were two lap children in one row and that can't happen (not enough oxygen masks for all). He got a free flight coupon out of it though. He's using it at the end of the month to go from FAI-IAD/DCA to see his sister's newborn son. So it all worked out for him.

When Qantas use 3-class aircraft sold as 2-class (J and Y only) they usually use the F section for J, along with the upstairs J. The downstairs J seating is used for Y, so J seating and Y cabin service.

As a reward for OFFERING to move from my aisle seat to a middle seat so that a family could be seated together, I was moved into the downstairs J seating - so I ended up with a much better seat anyway!

An Air Canada f/a asked me to move my seat on an A330-300 LHR-YYZ to make way for a late passenger, apparantley an aeroplan super elite who had preferred a aisle seat. I told her where to go. No chance in hell I am moving for that of all reasons. If it was someone who wants to sit next to a signfigant other, or a kid who wants to look out the window, i would have no problem moving.

When he finally got on the plane 20 mins after the next-last pax the cabin erupted in applause.
