Hey all, Interested in as to what this aircraft is doing in PHX?

It says "Midway Airlines" and appears to be a Midway CRJ operating for US Airways express. However, why would it be in PHX, Storage? At first I thought it was most likely a Mesa CRJ that swapped into the PHX base from the east to do AWX service. Any insight would be greatly appriciated!

Ever think it could have been a change in airplane for that day?  Smile

Flyingbronco05:

It is not possible for it to be 'a change in airplane' for that day: Midway Airlines went bankrupt and ceased all operations several months ago.

My guess is that someone gladly took ahold of a highly-popular CRJ for the low, low cost that often comes with bankruptcy. However, I'm often wrong, so a more knowledgeable source is welcome to chime in.

I am not 100% sure of the current status of Midway Airlines. My only guess was that this particular plane was recently picked up by Mesa and is now flying AWX routes from Phoenix. Plus I do not believe Mesa has a CRJ maintance facility in PHX.

Mesa whores itself out to so many airlines its hard to keep all their aircraft operating within the correct system.

Mesa was the successful bidder for Midway's assets, so the Midway CRJs are now owned by Mesa.

Mesa does have a hangar in PHX and the aircraft is/was here because of a celebration concerning the delivery of mesa's 100th rj, i believe carried down some employees from CLT for the celebration. Also i believe it is now in for mx because PHX is the location of the only mesa hangar in it's system.
Too bad you missed the celebration, there was a ERJ here as well.

Incidentally I also saw a US Express Dash-8 at LAS last weekend...kind of an odd sighting, anyone know what the deal is with that?
