Wed Feb 11, 2004 9:22 am

I was wondering. Does Vietnam Airlines fly into the United States? And are any US based airlines planning service to Vietnam?

I don't believe they do currently, but I would expect it to start soon, especially with AA opening a ticket office there, and Vietnam Airlines getting some 767's and 777's.

The earliest Vietnam airlines would start service into the United states will be in 2005.AA and other US carriers have no plans on starting service to vietnam. Most US carriers have a code share with their respective partners.

Look for VN to fly Hanoi-San Francisco in early 2005. Legacyins may know before anyone. From what I read last the VN/US goverments are still working on some finer details.

UPDATED: 10:34 AM CST January 30, 2004

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Fort Worth-based American Airlines is responding
to growing tourism and business overseas and plans to open an office
in Asia next month.

The office in Vietnam will be the first for the company in that
country.

American will open routes to Vietnam in April with daily flights from
Los Angeles. The flights will include a stopover in Japan.

An aviation agreement signed in Dec. 2003, allows U.S. carriers to
fly directly into the country for the first time since the Vietnam
War.
