Is The 717-300 Still Going Ahead?

Wed Feb 11, 2004 7:39 pm

Is the Boeing 717-300 program still going to materialise. What airline has hinted about purchasing this type?

we all need to face the facts...the 717 line will not last another year or so before it's declared dead. orders have been few and far between. and the competition from canada and brazil will seal its fate ... Sad

Was a max range ever proposed for the -300? I don't recall hearing about it.

The 717-200HGW max range is 2050nm.

Boeing made no indication it would offer a HGW version of the -300, but if enough orders were made, I think they'd do it. Having commonality in the 90-135 seat market could be an asset to an airline and to Boeing.

Cheers!

The 717-300 never made sense, when there already is the Boeing 737. This was a case of Boeing offering too many variants and aircraft niches that overlapped.

It's not pining, it's passed on. The 717 is no more. It has ceased to be. It's expired, and gone to meet its maker. It's a stiff. Bereft of life it rests in peace. Its metabolic processes are now history. It's off the twig. It's kicked the bucket, shuffled off its mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the choir invisible.

It is an ex-plane.

I very much doubt this. Boeing has no reason to keep the line open now unless it is anticipating orders in the future. And not to stir things up, but if NW were ordering DC-9 replacements today the 717 would be a perfect fit.

777ER, the person who said NW was ordering 500 717s was joking!!!  Smile

Oh come on, do you really think NW is ordering DC-9 replacements today? Or tomorrow? Or at any time in the next five years at least? By the time they get around to replacing them, Star Trek-style transporters will be in common use, and people won't need to fly the airlines anymore  Big grin

Mir that was a nice eulogy. And for certain the 717 program is on life support right now.

I honestly hope we will never have to see that ac in our skies. Rumors say SAS will fly their 736 with regional deals but I would prefer to see jungle machines.
