Ua Service To Brazil

Thu Feb 12, 2004 11:08 am

I'm planning a trip to Brazil in May. I'd like to know how is United service to Brazil?

767 service to EZE was nice, but I slept most of the flight. Food service in 1st was disapointing, but I was on a buddy pass, so I can't complain.

United will be serving Brazil from their international hubs in Washington Dulles and Chicago. The service from MIA has its days numbered.

From the airlines that serve the route and that I've been on, United was the best one, better then Varig or American, mostly because of the individual entertainment system UAL has. TAM has that too in their A330s, and its service in Brazil is great, so I'm guessing TAM's service can beat United. But as far as Varig and American are concern, no way. Oh, there's Continental too, I don't know about them either (they fly from Newark and Houston to Rio and Sao Paulo). Varig flyes from MIA, LAX and JFK, TAM only from MIA and American from MIA, DFW, and JFK.

United's service to Brazil is pretty good.

I liked CO better than UA on my two flights to Brazil.

I'd go for the shortest flight, and that is a long flight ORD-GRU!

My fiance flew UA from JFK-GRU home from her second trip here and said it was ok. She, much like myself prefer Varig. I don't care how old the MD-11s are, they are quieter and more comfortable than the 767. Check Varig's web site they have great deals..

I fly to GRU every once in a while from RDU. I have flown American Airlines from RDU-MIA-GRU in a MD-80 and 767 respectively. Also, I flew Delta Airlines from RDU-DFW-GRU in a 757 and MD-11 respectively. Both flights come out to be about the same time but I prefered Delta. I just prefer the 757 and the MD-11 had plenty of room. I also flew Varig many many years ago and they are also recommended.

Some friends of mine flew UA from GRU to ORD and back last summer (business class) and they were very impressed. Even though so many bad things are being said about UA service, my friends were very pleased and recommended UA for that route. Hope this helps.

What I didn't know is that UA uses 763's in that route. I thought I had heard somewhere they were using a 772. Is there any chance that was the case some time in the recent past?

I just went down to Brazil last month IAD-GRU-GIG and back (UA861 and UA860). Food on the way down was okay and excellent coming back. Best economy meal I've ever had. Small fillet mignon, other sides and treats, okay wine and great apple raisin pastry thing for dessert. I stuffed myself and it was actually too much food. PTVs are a nice feature on the 763 but they're small. One bad thing is a 3-hour stop in GRU. Not only is is a long wait but GRU has 70s decor and a annoying PA system that drove me insane.

LOL, yes GRU is definitely a unique airport. I had to wait when Varig added a flight to my trip back here, which turned out to be more of a nuisance and an hour delay!

I flew UA from SFO-MIA-GRU on 6th August 2003 Boeing 767-300ER in Economy plus.

It was great flight  Big grin, but full plane (pax in all classes and cargo and cabin bag). The food was average!!  Sad
Let's just blame it on yields.

I've been with United twice to Brazil, flying from Sao Paulo to Chicago and New York, very long flights but I found them to be very comfortable. There are PTVs on both the 767s and 777s and if you play your cards right and get an aisle or window seat on the sides of the aircraft, you will only have one person sitting next to you. Though the flights were long, the FAs gave adequate service throughout the flight. I wrote a trip report probably about 2 years ago about my trip, you could search for it in the correct forum. I can't compare UA to the other airlines flying the route, but I've flown down to GRU on 767s and 777s and the trip was good.

Bon voyage,

I've never flew UA, But I have always used CO, AA and DL.
From these three CO is the best one in my opinion..
Very friendly F/A and fairly new A/C

Hope you enjoy your time in my country  Wink/being sarcastic

UAs 763s have a decent IFE with a good supply of channels and movies, but the food is just average. If the 763 is full it will feel a little cramped when you are seated 9-10 hours, but unlike Varig's MD11s loaded, the aisles dont feel so crowded after mealtime and before landing.

I would fly UA just for the onscreen map, although I think CO has that in coach as well. AA on their 777s does too.

thanks for the responses!

i will probably be going GSO-IAD-FOR-IAD-GSO. sometime in between will be going FOR-IGU-FOR for my honeymoon.

i've never flown united to brazil, but have flown AA, DL, JJ, RG, CO. Of all those, RG & DL were definitely the worst. and the best to me was between CO & JJ.
