AA Equipment Switch

Thu Feb 12, 2004 2:36 pm

Hello all!

Why did American Airlines switch from a 777 to a 767 on the DFW-ZRH route? I always enjoyed those PTV's.

Probably felt it would be better served with that capacity and a two-class aircraft, shifting the three-class layout to another route where the demand for various premium tiers exists.

It's been switched for a while. I think the switch came sometime after Sept 11. Last I flew DFW-ZRH was on the 777 and that was New Years 2001.

Probably more leisure pax on DFW-ZRH than routes such as DFW-FRA, DFW-CDG and DFW-LGW. Plus, with expanded service to places like EZE, AA probably thought the 777s could be used better on other routes.

Ok.... but the 767 (200 I believe) have a 3 class international configuration. If I remember correctly AA only has a 2 class configuration on the 763 which flies mostly domestic markets.

Fourstripe --

DFW-ZRH is a 763. The 762's are used for domestic transcon flights in markets such as JFK-LAX where there are folks willing to pay big $$ for 3-class service.

David, the 763 flies international, with a few exceptions throughout the system. The 3-class 762s are used for transcons (ie LAX-JFK). American reconfigured the 763 to a two-class to better capitalize on revenue in European markets. However, London still gets 777s as it is considered a premium market.
