Marriage Proposals During Flight

Fri Feb 13, 2004 11:46 am

With the sappy day of the year fast approaching, have any of you witnessed a proposal in mid-air? Unfortunately, my last flight had one (AA 2347 ORD - DFW, 777).

Havent witnessed any, however my former flight instructor went to fly E145s with U.S. Express, and proposed to his now-wife in flight while he was non-revving.

I'd hate to pop the romantic balloon but I think a mid-air proposal isn't a good idea unless you're already 100% certain of the outcome. Being proposed to in front of an expectant audience puts a huge amount of pressure on the recipient to say 'yes' - which I think is extremely unfair if the person in question isn't sure.

YES! There was a proposal made in flight between NCL-ALC on Saturday 07/02/2004. The proposer was too shy to do it so got the F/A to ask the Captain to do it over the PA. A lot of the ladies had weepy eyes on that flight. She said yes.

I have let people use the P.A. before to ask their future wife if front of everyone. One gentleman was funny about it. He said. There are 148 people on here. How can you say "No?" He started walking back to her. I got back on the P.A. and said "if your answer is yes, please press you call button." She was chiming away. Sometimes the job still has benefits you can't get anywhere else. To see human beings filled with happiness is a great treat.

Hah, I love plugging that report...  Smile/happy/getting dizzy Big grin  Laugh out loud

The dude across the aisle proposed his fiancée (in secret, mind you), and AFTER she had accepted they made the purser announce it to everybody on board.

Marriage Proposals During Flight

Unfortunately, I was the main character of one of these stories.
I usually flight as a flight student with Futura International Airways, a Spanish charter airline. One they, in the middle of a flight, a F/A asked me to go out the cockpit to help her with a trolley. When I went out and closed cockpit door, another F/A used the PA to inform the whole aircraft that a third F/A (smiling in the galley) and me had just decided to get married. Imagine 189 passengers looking at you while one F/A kisses you as a part of the joke...
When we took off my "wife" and me took a photo in the passenger boarding bridge with a group of passengers that wanted to take a photo with us.....
Unfortunately, the F/A got married later with a first officer :-(

I proposed to my wife during a flight from DFW to PHX on DL as we were sitting in F class. She had no idea as to all the planning I had gone to. In order to have champagne on the flight, I had to bring enough champagne for everyone in F class. So about 4 bottles were brought on board. I also had to arrange for a dozen roses to be smuggled on board.

When it came time to pop the question, I dropped the engagement ring on the floor! Thank goodness we found it. The captain made the announcement and everyone clapped. As the plane landed, they asked that we remain on board as everyone wanted to come by and wish us well. Someone else made up a make-shift "Best Wishes" card and lots of people signed it.

In June, we will be celebrating 10 years of marriage. She still doesn't understand my fascination with planes, though  Smile !!

Greetings from Fuso.. It is the custom in my country that if a gentleman wishes to ask the hand of his ladyfair, that he give her a "Dirty Sanchez" to signal his intentions. Unfortunately in the western aviation community, this ancient custom, or rite of passage will most surely be frowned upon by those who control the great silver birds.
