Who Here Is From Spain...

Sat Feb 14, 2004 3:46 am

To all my Spanish members...saludos...I had some questions about possible job opportunities in the industry over in Spain. Is AENA looking for air traffic controllers....Etc...Just be interested in talking to a few of you guys about various opportunities...my girlfriend and I are considering staying and living in Spain (as she's from there) and I was just wondering with my degree in aviation and then my air traffic control certification...how the opportunities are. I am also pursuing my flight training (apart from my private) so how about the airline jobs, etc...
Regards to all

First of all, you will have to get married to be able to work in Spain, since Spain gives very few working visas every year through the "Cupo" (Immigrant Visas), and other nationals get preference (Chile and Peru for example) for job sponsoring working visas. So you will have a problem if you want to find a job and try to get the employer to sponsor you. INEM (Federal Employer Institute) will only authorize a working visa for a sponsored job in very special circumstances or if they do not find a Spaniard who can do the same work and who is registered in what we call "El Paro" (Unemployment benefits with INEM). If you get married you will be provided with a "Visa de Trabajo en Regimen Comunitario", this is essentially a resident visa that allows you to work in any field and any place in Spain.

About airline jobs, depends on where you want to work and what position are you applying for. I have seen Ryanair hiring Spanish flight attendants lately, since they have been expanding in Spain and Girona will become a new base for the airline. You might also want to check Air Europa and Spanair or the latest start up, Air Madrid. About AENA hiring, I don't know, so I will let another Spaniard answer this one...

You also need to sort out where in Spain you want to live, that will be very important on your job search, since jobs tend to concentrate in big cities like Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla and a few others...

Hey 767-332ER,

Im from Malaga, Spain.
I think but I´m not too sure that AENA recruits ATControllers every september.
As mentioned before, I´m not too sure but if you want to I´ll look for that information for you. If you want to look for information yourself you can log on to www.aena.es and try to get some useful info there.
If you need anymore things just go ahead and ask...

Thanks guys...
Dani, I checked the information from AENA and such and it's helpful up to a point. I am going to Spain soon and I will check with the INEM and other offices about applications that are needed to work in Spain, being an American citizen, but it's all options at this moment. My girlfriend wants to move to the U.S. but I still want to consider ALL options, here and there...but thanks guys...
