How Is ATA?

Sun Feb 15, 2004 12:53 am

I am traveling to LAS next week (it is my first time). I will be on ATA connecting through MDW. It is my first time connecting in MDW so I really have no idea what to expect, I heard appoching MDW is very awesome. From MDW to LAS i will be on a 757-300, this is my first time on a 753 ive been on a number of 752s of NWA. Can i expect any IFE or meals? If not it will be a long flight to LAS.

I am also looking for any good spotting areas for in the daytime when I get to LAS. I am really hoping to see the JAL 744 (on sundays right??) escepially in new colors.

Any info would be really great

oh yea i will have a trip report out next week to if any of you are interested.

Thanks

You will enjoy ATA. BUT no food. other than pretzels and a coke. the IFE is pretty good. 8 music channels and i think a standard movie. Connecting at MDW is so easy now. its the only airport I would enjoy connecting at. As for LAS not a clue maybe the others aiport bums on here would know.

ATA is pretty good, and MDW is a really nice airport, I enjoyed transiting through there... you should have a great flight, although Ive only been on ATA's 738 and 752...as for LAS, there is a spotting area on Sunset Blvd. near Eastern Avenue....you'll need a rental car to get to it...also check this thread for more info:

Have a good trip!

Headsets are $2 when I flew with them last month. Great airline! Bon voyage!

You will like the 753's that we have. All are configured in the "new" configuration. That being the all leather seats with the adjustable headrests and flip down monitor displays. Where are you connecting from?

what day are you flying...i'll see what seats are available. On the SF3 I would suggest the exit row. If you sit in rows 8 or back you won't have the noise as loud off the engine. 8A is the seat that most employees try to grab when they fly.

How many stations to they outsource check-in staff at? Not that this is an uncommon occurrence, see DL doing HA checkin and handling now, but ATA only has two people on staff that are actually employee's in SEA. Mainly Swissport staff handle passengers. Unfortunate for them since they get almost no flight benefits.

Flight Number 3480, SF3
Departs MKE-6:5AM
Arrives MDW-7:40AM
seats: don't have them yet

Flight Number 711, 753
Departs MDW- 9:20AM
Arrives LAS- 11:12AM
seats: 5A/5B

Flight Number 710
Departs LAS- 12:22PM
Arrives MDW-5:49PM
seats: 5A/5B

Flight Number 3491
Departs MDW-6:45
Arrives MKE-7:35
seats: don't have them yet

I am not entirely sure but i think we have 7 or 8 B/C there and back. I am sure that they are the same there and back.

I also heard that the 753 feels very cramped. The flight time from MDW-LAS is about 3 hours and 50 min. and that is a real long time to feel cramped and clustered, again ive never been on a 757-300 so i wouldnt know.

AATriple7,
I have never felt cramped in the 753 or any other TZ aircraft they currently fly, and I am 6'1". The windows sit a little low for me though.

ATA is a GREAT airline!!! You'll like the 757-300. Maybe I'll be boarding you on your flight from MDW since I am a gate agent here. The approach into MDW is really cool, but the landings are a little hard seeing that our biggest runway 31C is at 5,600ft. For a 757-300 thats quite a little runway. The aircraft has new seats with bendable headrests and TV monitors that extend down. You'll like us and if you do...fly us again!

Chicago 757, does 5,600 feet include the displaced threshold? When I looked up the taxi diagram online, it shows a 6,500 foot length for 31C.

AATriple7:

Isn't it the same, I mean, the 757-200 and -300? I know their technical and physical differences, but the cabin should be just as the 757-200 (wide/tall) just a little more longer and with new seats/decoration.

That's my opinion, since in every 757-200 I have been... actually I have only flown 2 airline's 757s... AA and Eastern. Anyways, I whink both models have the same comfort feeling (757-300 might be more comfortable) and you should have a very pleasant flight..... and I hate 737's windows too... they're too low!

5500 is the longest usable landing length on all the runways at MDW 6500 is the longest t/o length that is the displaced threshold. Remember pilots the FAA does not like us landing on the Dis. Thresh.

Flew out of MDW today in a 172 controllers we great as always!

You'll like ATA...they are very good...no food but good audio and fun video...movies on flights of 5 hours or more so no movie on that run...you'll enjoy them though.
