Finnair, who introduced temporary winter service to Miami this winter, has confirmed they will make the new seasonal service permanent. Service to Miami will begin next year a little later on 11 December 2004:

The Miami area is home to the largest Finnish community in the world outside of Europe, and is the number one vacation destination for Finnish tourists in the Americas.

And here is the PR.

MIAMI FLIGHTS CONTINUE IN WINTER 2004-2005

Finnair will once again provide services to Miami during the winter of 2004-2005. The service that began for the 2003-2004 winter season in October 2003 has proved so popular that a decision has been made to continue the route next winter. Finnair will operate the route from Helsinki using MD-11 aircraft from December 13, 2004 until March 31, 2005. The Florida region has many interesting attractions for visitors, and the exchange rate for the euro is very favourable against the US dollar. Flights continue through the current winter season until March 28.

Miami is one of the best winter holiday destinations in the USA. There is something for everyone and the weather is generally excellent. Some of the best theme parks in the USA, including Disney World and SeaWorld, are within driving distance, and fabulous sandy beaches are close to Miami. Florida is also the favourite family destination in the US. A Caribbean atmosphere awaits just a few hours away at Florida Keys, while many top class golf courses are also located in the State.

From Miami it’s easy to continue to the Caribbean islands. There are onward, non-stop connecting flights to almost all the major islands from Miami, many of them provided by Finnair’s oneworld alliance partner American Airlines. Miami is also the major US hub for traffic to South and Central America.

Woohoo! Long live MIA!

Nice to hear that. I'm astonished, though, that Miami has the biggest Finnish community. I know there are a lot of Dutch and German people, but I guess us Latinos just take up pretty much all of the place!

Great news, anyway, will love to see those MD11s in MIA

Latinos do dominante the area, but Miami's European communities are some of the largest in the United States. In addition to Finnish and, as you mentioned, German and Dutch populations, Miami also some of the largest French, Spainish, Russian, Polish, Czech, Italian, and Urkranian communities in the US. The largest European community in Miami is the Italian community, with over 200,000 Italians living in South Florida. About 20% of them are first generation immigrants.
