Favorite LCC?

Sun Feb 15, 2004 11:22 am

Love them or Hate them, they are here to stay. So what is your favorite and reasons why? (routes, fleet, service, FF program)

My personal favorites are Frontier, WN, Airtran.

Frontier- truly a classy little airline and who doesn't like the livery. And it proves even with out free IFE they get customers.

Southwest- Great FF program, IM based in LBB so they are basically most of our service

Airtran- like still having business class (will it work in the long haul who knows)
Texas- it's like a whole different country!

Mine is AirTran, overall good service, and having the cheap upgrades is a real bonus in my opinion. That said however, I am trying Southwest for the first time on Friday, so who knows if they will win me over...

Ryanair - because their fares are extremely cheap, I always find them way cheaper than Easyjet, bmibaby, or anyone else. The onboard service isn't great, some of the flight attendants can't speak great English (even when they ARE English! Big grin ) and half of my flights have been on the 732s, which sound like they're about to fall apart when we take off.

However, when you consider that return fares I've paid to Frankfurt, Dublin, Reus and Dinard, among others, are cheaper than the train ticket from Chesterfield to Stansted, I'm certainly not complaining!

Me, I have a tie between Frontier Airlines and Jet Blue Airways. The reason they are tied is because Frontier is locally based here in Denver, and Jet Blue operates from my native New York City. Oh and my favorite Frontier commericial:

"Eating Yellow Snow!"

I'll have to say WestJet - although that's a fairly biased opinion. Good schedules, excellent on time performance, great service.

I'm also a fan of jetBlue and Southwest. JetBlue because they truly revolutionalized the low cost model. Southwest because they pioneered it.

Southwest by far. Their service could be better but route structure is amazing. I've never really dealt with a bad crew flying with them either. I also really like Frontier, however I now live in Florida and don't travel transcon much its been awhile since I've flown with them. As for AirTran I haven't flown with them but may fly once to try out biz class. JetBlue isn't in my market and I have no desire to fly with them right now.

F9 because of their route network from DEN. Good FF program, too.

Hapag Lloyd express! Nice cabin, comfortable leather seats, low fare and superb service.
Ryan air dirty planes, even brand new B737-800 in a right mess stains on seats and chewing gum on floor, service terrible cold coffee at £1.50 a slab, have flown with them several times and not impressed & OK if you live near Stansted or Prestwick but what about the rest of us.
Easyjet not far behind always seem to have a problem with them 2 hour delays or me in Liverpool bags in Luton.
Done Southwest in the USA and that is a fantastic experience.
Manage to get good fares on full service carriers BMI and BA are very competitive on most routes providing you book early.
I believe Monarch are excellent but not had reason to try them yet.

Ryanair and easyJet (probably in that order based on fares).

I've flown Ryanair, bmibaby and Jet2 and like all for them for differing reasons:

Jet2: Very friendly crew, immaculate passenger cabin.

bmibaby: Again, very friendly crew. Good on-time flights.

Ryanair: The carrier I've paid least money to fly with, truly no-frills but gets you there in one piece.

Overall favourite would be Jet2.

ATA! They are the only LCC I've flown and the experience was great, I highly reccommend them.

Frontier gets honorable mention, though I haven't had a chance to fly them yet,

Definitely Frontier, though they stopped flights to Boston recently, so I can't fly them anymore. But they were a good airline in my opinion. Also, I'm not sure what America West is considered (mainline or LCC), but I always get cheap fares and good service flying them from LA to Boston and vice versa.

Well, I have flown in the past couple of LoCo-Airlines, and the overall winner is:

AIR BERLIN cityShuttle!! Starting for litttle as 19EURO INCL. (around 25$) from Germany to European hot-spots inclusive:
-assigned seats
-free newspapers
-free magazines
-free drinks
-free snack/sandwiches
-great entertainment system for little surcharge
-Miles on their Bonus-Program

Well, on my last trip, my flight was cancelled and re-booked. Instead flying from Hamburg to London for 19EURO(!!!!), the new route was Hannover to London. Air Berlin paid me for compensation:
1.Free Train-ride from Hamburg to Hannover
2.One B&B-accomadation in London (of my choice)
3.Flight voucher for the next Trip, worth 25EURO
>>>>> THATS ALL FOR 19EURO!!!!!!!!

My favourite is jetBlue. Reasons:

- friendly people, no matter if cabin crews, counter personnel or ground staff: all their staff seem to be proud of working for the company!
- clean cabins
- comfortable leather seats with good pitch
- they do have frills such as free drinks and snacks
- LiveTV in every seat PLUS moving map!
- professional and high quality appearance, never getting a 'cheap' impression
- the 'fun factor', such as different tails colors and funny names on planes, makes even large fleets individual

The ones to follow are germanwings, Southwest, HLX and DBA. Ryanair is last on my list...reasons: the exact opposite of the aspects above!

LCCs on my test schedule for the next months:

- easyjet
- Jet2
- VBird

If I can use a LCC that isn't in my country then B6 (jetBlue) by a long shot. As I just typed in another thread, I used them 4 times on my trip to the US last year. I really liked their model of giving more as a LCC. I know that WN was the pioneer etc, but I still think that B6 is a good model and I was extremely happy after flying them.

Leather seats with 34" pitch (which is more than I got with VS on the transatlantic journey to the US), PTV for every passenger with DirecTV, free drinks and snacks and headsets. Modern fleet of A320s, friendly staff, clean aircraft and on-time service. They even let me swap to an earlier flight totally free of charge at the last minute when we'd built too much fat into our flying timings for the day when we'd booked. If I'd made that change in advance there would have been a charge!

If I had to choose a UK based LCC, then it would probably be a tie between U2 and FR with U2 just taking it because they fly to more major airports. I don't find their fares vastly different if booked in advance, although FR do lots more offers. I haven't flown with any of the others yet, but will be road testing BMIbaby in a couple of months Big grin

Hey Mikec,

now as you wrote it I also remember a B6 experience where I was offered taking an earlier flight. I had been booked on the second Long Beach-Oakland flight and arrived at the airport early. At check-in the ground staff kindly offered me to take the first flight though it would already depart within the next 35 minutes. I got my boarding card and arrived at the gate just in time for boarding. Wow, I won more than 90 minutes more which I could spend in San Francisco.
That's what I call customer service!

And in terms of cabin crew: they have always been interested in talking a bit about the airline and one offered me to take a picture of me in front of the aircraft after arrival in Long Beach.

Hey, try to ask for an earlier flight at Ryanair or ask for an FA taking a picture of you and expect to get an asskick in both cases...

jetBlue is something gotta love them!

Wow Udo - that's exactly the same thing that happened to me!! We arrived in on the 2pm flight from LAS into LGB, but hadn't booked the 2:30pm (something like that) departure out to OAK because we thought it would be too tight and had decided to spend some more time in LGB. However when we arrived, we soon realised that lots of people were just staying onboard. We got our bags and asked at customer service if we could change to an earlier flight and they let us reboard the aircraft we'd just got off with minutes to spare, at no extra cost. We got hours extra up in San Francisco as a result of their help!

Must be the friendly staff at LGB!

Not one particular. It would be the current LCC which have the lowest fares out of the nearest airport. That would be Easyjet out of AMS at the moment.

Going 25 Feb AMS-LTN-AMS, just for the thrill of flying, for only 35 Euro.
I calculated that it is possible to fly a triangle AMS-GVA-LTN-AMS or was it the opposite direction can't remember that, for just about 100 Euro.
This is also an opportunity for me to finally fly an A320 family a/c for the first time of my life. Yes EZY is currently my favorite!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy
I love both Airbus and Boeing as much as I love aviation!

Has to be Jet 2. Very good service and cabin, excellent on time record and good they fly from Leeds Bradford!

Easyjet are also good, but service wise don't compare with Jet2.

BA actually.

Most European destinations for less than £100 return; full service; proper airports and back-up when it all goes T.U.

Even though I've only flown of FR to DUB last August at a very cheap rate (£35.00 return on the Robbie Williams concert weekend, bargain), I do like EZY and hope to fly with them soon. I was due to fly with EZY last November, but split up with my other half so didn't have anyone to go with. It cost me £40.98 return NCL-ALC, again not bad from NCL.

I have only been on ATA and Ryanair. And one can debate if ATA really qualifies but I really, really liked them. And they will always have a spot in my heart since I guess that I flew on a 727 for the last time on one of their planes.

Funny you asked that, I was on an AS flight the other day and overheard the capt. and one of the flight attendants argueing that very same point. I don't think they qualify, but they are a pretty good airline. As for LCC B6, F9, and WN have always provided a great experience. I'd love to try Westjet over the summer.

Jetblue And Frontier

Mon Feb 16, 2004 6:57 am

My favorites are
Jetblue due to its really nice fleet of Airbus A320s, leather seats, happy F/As (not to mention their stylish uniforms -- I really like the guys' ties), excellent Live TV, Blue chips... everything is simply wonderful.

Frontier is great too... I like their wraps and muffins... great F/As, Live TVs, nice gate agents at DEN, and lovely fleet of A318/319s.
