Northwest And Delta Working Together

Tue Feb 17, 2004 12:22 am

I just purchased an e-ticket on the NWA web site with the outbound legs on Northwest and the return legs as Northwest-Delta codeshare flights through DFW. There were quite a few trips listed with all legs as Northwest flight numbers on Delta flights.

It was the same at Northwest Awards travel. While perusing trips to London during the upcoming Christmas holidays, it appears a third of those listed for booking are Northwest-Delta codeshares. The sheer numbers startled me.

I'm conjecturing that whatever problems existed between Northwest and Delta have been resolved. Anyone have updates on the CO/DL/NW alliance?

I booked 2 tickets on nwa.com from SDF-ATL using Worldperks Miles and got standard award non-stop on Delta! Booking it was super simple and I'm finally using some miles for a change.

I guess the rumors that there was friction in the CO/DL/NW alliance are just that -- rumors.

I have flown NW and CO many times with my DL FF number. Lounge access and priority boarding are seemless. Also, the miles for the NW and CO flights are posted to my DL within a day or so!

Quite a difference from AA where I don't see AA flights posted to my AA account for days and days.

It is the same with the Continental and Delta codeshare. They are sharing on a staggering amount of flights... put it this way, they share on thousands, not a handlful as many seem to think.

Yes, you can, but you will need to book the travel and then call Delta and ask them to use your miles to upgrade that trip. NOTE that DL may not have full access to the available upgrade inventory on NW that NW may offer to its own customers.

FlyABR,

One of the issues that had to be ironed out is how each airline handles the attribution of frequent flyer credit through various fare classes. For instance, when I fly Continental, I sometimes get credit for a 'segment' rather than my Platinum mileage differential. Also, I had previously been told that Delta was giving NW elites 50% mileage credit on K, L, and T coded fares, but I've been assured that's part of the negative rumor mill surrounding this alliance.

It was just a matter of being sure everyone was doing the same business the same way. That way everyone makes money.  Smile

RobINDYHP,

I do believe you've missed the point of the thread.

i know awhile back i found something on the NWA website that said delta miles can't be used to upgrade on NWA flights (can't find that anymore). this however was not true of continental. so this has changed then?? sorry to ask again...

Last 2 times flying DL I have had the mileage posted to my World Perks account as quickly as if it was a Northwest flight. And since here in Savannah Delta handles the one or two Northwest Airlink flights, besides the livery on the plane and the in-flight magazine (and a slightly different version of the CRJ safety announcement), you may as well be flying Delta Connection. You check in with a Delta agent, board at a Delta gate, the only visual difference between NW Airlink and say, ComAir or ASA might be that Airlink's CRJ's seem to have a more bright white/greyish tint to their overhead bins while the ComAir ones I've been on (just two) are already yellowed a slight bit.

Delta has some really really nice people working for them here in Savannah.

FlyABR,

I gather with the removal of that information from the web site that Precious Metals, Elites and Medallions now have equity.

Let the sharing continue. Expect NW and DL to lay off some Mechanics or buy out older mechanics in the coming weeks. Maintenance will also be shared depending on the city. I.E. NWA jet maintenance in ATL will be handled by DL, DL planes in MSP will be handled by NWA etc....

Look for NW/CO/KLM to be introduced into the Skyteam alliance in the near future. Plans for that are in the works right now. KLM is being brought in by the AF/KLM. Just wanted to share the info.
