Monarch GIB Service

Just wondering what aircraft is currently used for the MAN-GIB route as im going there next month.
Whats the service like with Monarch scheduled, is there any difference to the a/c interior??

Also what happened to G-MONC a few years back, i just came across this old thread before:

Im not too sure what aircraft is used on the MAN-GIB route but I would guess it's the A320-200

G-MONC is still flying...

GIB is a very nice place. I especially enjoyed the walk over the runway - something I deliberately did four or two hundred times.  Laugh out loud It'd be very good indeed to be on the Rock while an aircraft's on finals, presuming it lands over the sea. I remember seeing a small aircraft land while I was there. Wow.  Laugh out loud

An A320 is timetabled for that route, although they sometimes have last minute changes of aircraft type. Aircraft/interior are the same as their charter operation as the aircraft and crews mix between scheduled and charter flights.

From the top of my head, the incident with G-MONC at GIB involved a heavy touchdown of the nose landing gear leading to significant damage to the front of the aircraft and nosewheel. The official report is here

Hi Chris - OAG says the flight is scheduled on an A320. I went Monarch scheduled for the first time last Saturday (you can find my trip report in that forum), but briefly I was very impressed with the standard of service - much better than on other low cost carriers. Free hot meals, hot towels, bar service, tea and coffee and complimentary headsets for the IFE. The only drawback is that the aircraft are charter configured so seat pitch is very poor. However, if you check-in early enough they'll give you an exit row seat at no extra cost (assuming you qualify for one). Monarch also have a frequent flyer programme which you qualify for after four sectors, so keep your boarding card stubs if you're interested in joining.

Yupp, crossing the runway by foot gives you a strange feeling, and this is hopefully the only runway in the world which has a 4 lines highway crossing the runway. I'm glad I'm not working in that tower, it must be frustrating having so many cars/people crossing the runway all the time.

Thanks for the info and the pic guys, I've been to GIB once before but only on a day trip from Spain. Crossing the runway on the road really is something but i imagine flying there is much better.

An A320 and hot towels ey? Wow haven't had any of them experiences for quite a few years now. Is it me or has the super hot boiling towel now been almost completely replaced by the freshen up wipe??

Just to add to the reports about Monarch Schedueld (ZB), I flew LTN-FAO and back in 2002. Was really impressed, yed its charter config so no room, but the service really makes up for that. Hot Towels, free meals, free drinks, free entertainment, and of course Monarch's great crew!! They also had Portugese speaking crew, as quite a few Portugese were on board.

I flew out on 757, but it was tech on the way home so it was A320. We were handed a letter at check-in apologising for the delay (45 mins!!) and the downgrade in aircraft!!
