Excellent news.

Continental Express has also been looking at Gainesville... but it doesn't look like that service is viable with the subsidy/travel bank amounts offered.

A wish of mine... When posting "new service" topics, it would be nice if the correct operating airline was identified in the topic's title. In this case, it would be CO Jet Express. If the service were actually to be operated by CO mainline, then by all means the title would be appropriate as is.

So please feel free to use the name of the "motherbird" airline but please add the identity of the actual operating airline (Pinnacle, Mesa, Comair, etc, etc, etc) as well when informing us of new service. Just a request on my part.

Consumers are beyond fed up with all of the smoke-and-mirrors schemes of the "legacy" airlines; representing new services to be flown with regional jets or turboprops as "new Continental (or choose any "legacy" airline) service to ...) is just one more way airlines further the negative perceptions consumers rightly have toward the airline industry.

It's nice to see expansion in any form from CO in Houston. Within a years time, IAH has or will gain service to Sarasota, Toluca, Oaxaca, Puebla, Monclova, Tallahassee, Roatan, Manzanillo, Liberia, Cuidad del Carmen, and Bakersfield. I certainly expect more as the year progresses.

This TLH flight is one of the beginning steps in what I bet will be a complete coverage of Florida by CO from IAH. There are several smaller cities there that could easily be reached by the ERJ, such as Daytona. I noticed they're even running an ERJ on CO / KMCO), USA - Florida">MCO-IAH some days! Personally I think we'll see some upstate NY flights in the not too distant future.

Good to see new options for Houston travellers.

Continental already told Gainesville to forget about it. GNV is now trying to lure both American Eagle and Northwest Airlink to Miami and Memphis, respectfully. American Eagle has shown a lot of interest, though only pending heavy subsidies.

Also, great news for TLH! A little off topic, but one thing that still shocks me, though, is that nobody still flies TLH-DCA. Hello USAirways Express or Delta Connection! This is your type of twice-daily RJ route!

Hey MAH4546, yeah you are right about TLH-DCA for US Airways, but leave it up to them to not expand and give people what they want. Whenever someone tries to give US a good idea they turn away. There are numerous cities in the US system that have been begging for more service and all they tell us is that they will look into it. The last time I looked the passengers are what makes an airline profitable, and I don't see how US can turn their head away from making money. every $$ counts, but until US gets a management team in there who knows what to do to correct the problem, its going to be a long road.

Good news for the people of TLH.
Off topic, but didn't CO operate in to TLH a while ago with main line aircraft? Also does anyone see EWR-Melbourne coming back in the future?

Awesome news! Finally there is even more competition for us FSU and FAMU students to go back to our hometowns. Do you think they will introduce more routes in the future? Maybe EWR? I wonder if AA will ever serve TLH. It would be great competition for DL going to MIA, or even FLL.

Anybody now if TLH was ever served by AA?

Thanks

MAH4546,

Right on topic! At least for me...
I'm going to DCA in spring break, and have to fly via ATL on FL going there, and via CLE and ATL on the way back with DL. (DCA-CLE is operated by CO)

I really wish US would have TLH-DCA. Not a bad route considering also the amount of students/faculty/government traveling this route.

During the days of the BNA and RDU hubs, AA did serve TLH. I'm not sure about the equipment early on, but toward the end I know AA (actually Eagle) was flying SF340's TLH-BNA.

AA once served many of the Gulf Coast cities (MOB, PNS, TLH,etc).

Why would you bother changing the topic. Some people like to complain about absolutely nothing. The email I got from CO said Continental Airlines News and the headline was: Continental Airlines to Inaugurate New Service at Tallahassee, Fla. Regional Airport.
So what if CO is not actually operating the flight and it is their once wholly owned subsidiary operating it. You are still booking it through CO and it is still branded as CO just with the Express at the end. If that is someone's biggest concern/problem their problems are really much greater. Sorry I normally don't really care but that just ticked me off.

Anyway again this is good news for the people of TLH and they have a great airline offering the product be it CO or Continental Express (Express Jet).

"Also does anyone see EWR-Melbourne coming back in the future?"

The airport can't get another airline in there for anything. They are currently offering $1.2 million for the introduction of a new destination and no takers. DL is poised and ready to expand if anyone wants to add some competition, but no luck. Independence Air is looking at starting RJ's to IAD, but nothing confirmed yet. The only confirmed new service is charter flights on Britannia to London/Manston in September.
It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

Why isn't CO interested in the route? I'm sure they could fill an RJ to EWR at least once a day.

How close is it to Daytona Beach? Maybe it isn't a feasible route due to the proximity of the airports.

Cory, please pull out a map.
TLH is nowhere near Daytona Beach, other than still being in Florida.
Daytona is, by my rough guess, 200+ miles from Tallahassee and probably 75 or so from Gainesville. If anything, Daytona is close to Orlando (< 50 miles).

I would think that 2 or 3 regional jets between EWR and TLH is reasonable and will probably work out well for CO.
None shall pass!!!!

COEWRNJ, you are absolutely right on. Cory6188, you don't need to change your post.

Besides, I am sure that entire post is a joke, no one would seriously make such a statement.

I was asking about EWR-Melbourne, not EWR-TLH. Sorry I didn't clarify that.

In the late Eighties-late Nineties CO flew M80s, 737s and 727s between EWR and both Daytona Beach and Melbourne.

They dropped both then brought back Melbourne with one daily 737-500 in response to Spirt's launching LGA-Melbourne, both routes were dropped right after 9-11.

CO also brought DAB back with flights to both EWR and CLE (weekends), then they were dropped after 9-11 but have since returned.

Hopefully EWR-Melbourne will return also, ERJs.

As for other potential routes how about IAH-Panama City (FL), compliments their flights to Pensacola and Ft.Walton Beach.

This is great news for Tallahassee! Maybe they will indeed try EWR-TLH if the IAH service is a sucess. It just gives the TLH market more options.  Big thumbs up

I was on a JAX-IAH flight on CO mainline when we stopped in PNS on the way, I guess it was to pick up passengers but I am not sure.

Continental used to route some flights on this route through Pensacola, as regularly scheduled.

in response to Spirt's launching LGA-Melbourne,

Spirit never flew LGA-MLB. They flew FLL-MLB-DCA-FLL and FLL-DCA-MLB-FLL.

The reason that Continental announced this and is taking credit for it is that CO has a capacity purchase agreement with ExpressJet. They buy all of the seats that XJT has to offer, and tell XJT where to fly, and when to fly it. You can't buy a seat on ExpressJet directly, you buy a ticket from CO. Go to www.expressjetair.com, and try to buy a ticket, you'll be redirected to www.continental.com.
