For some reason, I have no idea about this one...

I would say that HAM is another large city without US service.

St. Petersburg has to be up there. I'll bet it's #1.
Maybe some of the industrial British midlnds cities, Sheffield, Newcastle, etc., etc.

I may be ugly. I may be an American. But don't call me an ugly American.

There are a lot in former USSR. Most of these cities have population over 1 million but just not enough demand or too close to Moscow/Kiev:

Minsk Belarus BY Minsk International 2 Airport MSQ
Kiev Ukraine UA Kiev KBP (no service by US airlines)

Samara Russia RU Samara Airport KUF
Nizhniy Novgorod Russia RU Gorkij Airport GOJ
Dnepropetrovsk Ukraine UA Dnepropetrovsk Airport DNK

I am sure the real question was "which cities with enough traffic to US do not have direct service?"

Turin (TRN) don't have it too.

If I'm not wrong, some years ago AA was interested in establishing a JFK-TRN flight (don't know if on daily or weekly basis), but seems that Alitalia put a big pressure to avoid it (and won, obviously... Pissed).

The only German cities with transatlantic services are FRA, MUC, STR and DUS (LH/Privatair Business Jets only). HAJ has a charter to Canada in the summer once or twice a week but I don't think that counts.

The reason why Berlin doesn't have any has been discussed quite often.
There is not enough demand. LH tried it in 2000/2001 with TXL-IAD but canceled it right away after 9/11 as it was performing very poorly.

Stockholm (ARN) used to see a lot of US traffic, but if memory serves me correctly, they have all pulled out.

In response to the last post I'm not sure if American ever wanted to start JFK-TRN, but I know in 1994 that TWA was about to begin this route with 4 weekly flights but nothing came of it.

The largest cities without service by U.S. carriers would probably be St. Peterburg with a population of 4.7 million and Berlin with about 3.7 million.
There are several other important cities in Europe with no U.S. carriers serving them.

Belgrade
Berlin
Bucahrest
Budapest
Cologne
Copenhagen
Dusseldorf
Hamburg
Helsinki
Kiev
Lyon
Marseille
Naples
Oslo
Prague
Riga
Sofia
St. Petersburg
Stockholm
Turin
Vienna
Warsaw
Zagreb

Disregard my last post as I was reading U.S. carriers not U.S. service. St. Petersburg and Berlin still qualify though.

N276AASTT,
It's correct that DL and AA pulled out of ARN, but we stil have SAS flying daily to ORD and 4/weekly to EWR.
EWR will be daily again from the summerschedule.

DETA 737 I think almost all of us understood it as US carriers...

DETA737- you're correct in listing OTP (Bucharest), Tarom just dropped their direct flights to JFK, no other carriers serve routes non-stop to the US.

Got to be honest now, but I'd doubt the EDI-EWR service will work. NCL-EWR would be much better because of the way the traffic works in the area.

Yes DETA737, you're right, it was TWA that wanted to start a JFK-TRN service, not AA.

Checking Turin airport site I saw that officially Alitalia has a TRN-JFK connection right now, too.

They carry passengers on a bus (!!), probably waiting outside the airport, and carry them to MXP, where they finally get a plane. What a joke!
