FedEx Transatlantic Flights

Tue Feb 17, 2004 3:21 pm

Does FedEx do any transatlantic routes with the Scarebuses (300 or 310) or is it all MD-11?

Cheers

Yes trans Atlantic flying is done by the MD-11 with an occasional DC-10 substitution. Airbus aircraft however are based both in Europe and Asia for inter regional flying.

From the desert to the sea, to all of Southern California

FedEx uses A310s at least for JFK-CDG...

Fedex uses only MD11 and DC10-30 on transatlantic flts.
The only A310 you may see over the ocean is when a plane flies back to the States or a new one arrives in Europe, but it is only a ferry flt, not very common, and probably not with EWR as an origin

FX send some A310s and A300s to MAN for maintainance, there was one here yesterday being moved from the engine test area (just arrived so I missed my photo op).

They are starting a CDG - MAN - MEM service with the MD-11 from 30th August, I'm exited about that as I have never seen a freighter variant before (come to think of it I don't think I have seen any MD-11 in person yet).

I got the rumor from ringway reports, they have it under hot off the press i think.

Only MD11s or on occasion a MD10-30. Never a DC10.

my understanding is that anchorage AK is our international hub and they mostly fly the md-11's out of there, until we get the new a-380!

It should be 4 times a week (I don't know if that is 2 to CDG and 2 to MEM though).

"FEDEX 4x weekly Paris CDG - Manchester - Memphis freight service with MD-11F effective 30/8/04" quoted from

http://www.ringwayreports.co.uk/newservices2004.htm

It is full of the Summer 2004 movements, including the list of when the PIA 777 visits.

I have seen A310's at Stansted but whether they're from europe I'm not sure. We mainly get MD11's in here. Cant wait to see the A380's, the new FedEx cargo centre was built to handle 2 at the same time (it's good to dream  Nuts).

Yeah, it is! It was whole of the domestic & international hubs and it is very big company into MEM. It will make handling more than of cargo tons and package, too.

Just a little (off topic) observation.

It is my understanding that FEDEX has their main European hub at CDG.
The A.net picture database contains 67 pictures of FEDEX at CDG.
Each of these 67 pictures show one single Fedex plane only.

DHL has their main European hub at BRU. The A.net picture database contains 212 pictures of DHL aircraft at BRU. This includes many pictures that illustrate nicely the size and nature of DHL's (nightly) operations at BRU.

How come that the FEDEX (nightly?) operations at CDG have not received a greater level of attention (by the photographers or on the forum), like e.g. the DHL operations at BRU do?

Thanks

I visited the Fedex's hub at CDG, it's huge, it's the biggest outside USA.
Main FEDEX operations at CDG are during the night.

I saw 4 MD11, 1 DC10 and 5 A310.

There are flights to MEM, EWR, DXB, Subic Bay and all the biggest European cities.

They've their own Terminal, very modern.

AirGabon,
last time I was in CDG in the late evening there was a spell of about 7-8 FX departures in a row all from the northern runway with a mixture of M11s and A310s.Around 9pm I guess,it was quite remarkable.
They also seem to have a plethora of departures around 2am.

DFW has several DC-10/MD-11s, 727s, and two A300 or 310 A/C based

Why do they fly into DFW, when they have a hub at AFW?

Why do they fly into DFW, when they have a hub at AFW

DFW is still used by FedEx because some of the outlying stations are too far from AFW. Some of the stations on the eastern side of the metroplex are 50+ miles from AFW. Express freight (the 10:30 am stuff) still arrives from MEM and IND into the Dallas/Ft. Worth market as late as 6 am. If this freight were to arrive at AFW instead of DFW, the 50+ mile drive at morning rush hour would cause the freight to arrive too late at the outlying stations.
