AA Second Trip LAX-LHR...slots From Where?

Wed Feb 18, 2004 2:27 am

Where did AA find the slots to run a second daily LAX-LHR flight? Were they dormant unused slots or were they transferred from elsewhere...EWR perhaps?

Yes, it would like make extra slots into LHR and because those flight is always full out of LAX-LHR flight. This is exactly was completition of those airlines.

I posted a few days ago, that AA is supposed to start SFO-LHR flights as well ... no one wanted to believe me ... guess we'll soon see.

Where did you hear about AA wants to make new routes to LHR flight and didn't do it for them. Possible that you should wait to see what is happening with AA.

What does that have to do with the extra LAX-LHR flights?

Even though the PR came out today, the 2nd daily LAX-LHR flight has been available for booking since October 2003. Not sure where the slot came from, I think it came from O'Hare, which has 4 flights this summer instead of five like last summer.

As for SFO-LHR, I would not hold my breathe for it. SJC-LGW may become a reality.

I doubt SFO-LHR for AA. SJC-LON should be fine.

I still am convinced SJC-LHR is doable under the bilateral.

If AA could do SJC-LGW, take over the SAN-LHR route authority from BA, twice a day from LAX and a SFO-LHR flight, then AA could dominate the California-London market like no other. Just food for thought.

It looks like LAX and JFK each gain a flight whereas BOS and ORD each lose a flight.

AA to LHR, tentative Summer 2004:
Boston, 2x777
Chicago, 4x777
Los Angeles, 2x777
Miami, 1x777
New York City-JFK, 6x777

AA to LHR, Summer 2003:
Boston, 3x777
Chicago, 5x777
Los Angeles, 1x777
Miami, 1x777
New York City-JFK, 5x777

I know when I first transferred to LHR we were told in orientation that during the summer AA and UA both get two roundtrip frequencies. UA used them to boost up to three daily SFO and four daily IAD during the summer of 2001. I assume this is still the case.

In a press release recently, I thought I read that AA will have 5 flights
ORD-LHR this summer. I will see if I can find where I read that.

Not unless they can prove some serious traffic while remaining the sole carrier.

In yet another oddity of Bermuda II, SJC is a co-terminal of SFO for LON access, but not LHR access.

Thanks for clearing it up. Though, of note, the third BOS-LHR flight did not last. I think it flew for 2-3 weeks at most. The slot went mainly unused last summer. Also, on Saturdays, JFK-LHR has five flights, BOS-LHR has one, and MIA-LHR has two.

KKMolokai... There will be no (not even under consideration) SFO-LHR flights.... And stay out of Mr. Nozaki's office!  Smile

747firstclass... Um doesn't AA normally fly 5 roundtrips ORD-LHR every summer?

Doubled service on LAX-LHR, as well as the addition of SFO-LHR...sounds to me like American is trying to go more head-to-head with United on the LHR routes. Is it possible AA may add HNL-LHR? Also, why do they only serve LGW from DFW, instead of LHR?

They are not adding SFO-LHR and they have no plans to add SFO-LHR.

Is it possible AA may add HNL-LHR?

No. First of all, HNL is not a US-LHR gateway. Secondly, why would a carrier enter a market as ridiculous as HNL-LHR?

Also, why do they only serve LGW from DFW, instead of LHR?

They can't, Bermuda II. Dallas is not a Heathrow gateway.

The extra slot at LHR might be from the vacant EWR slot which AA dropped a few months ago.

Actually, ORDLHR is at 5 frequencies this summer.
