LAN Cargo At FRA

Wed Feb 18, 2004 10:53 pm

When I was at FRA yesterday, I saw a LAN Cargo 767-300F taxiing for take-off. Does this follow the same routing as their passenger A-340 to FRA or go to the LAN Cargo hub in MIA?

Interesting seeing LAN in FRA, anyone have any clue as to how they do?

LAN flies 3 weekly Cargo Flights FRA-MIA with B-767F or Atlas Air B-747F together with LH Cargo. The business is doing extremly well. A lot of cargo is going to and from Ecuador . In addtion LAN flies Cargo also on LH Cargo MD-11 to VCP and EZE tog with LH + plus the 6 weekly A-340 flights FRA-MD), Spain">MAD-SCL.

Thanks, Lan707. Any idea how the passenger flights do in terms of load factors?

The Pax loads are pretty good. LAN FRA is filling the Pax Flights with Cargo plus some Pax to SCL (About 40-50 a day). Mad is filling the rest with Local Pax and Connects from Europe mainly from IB. (Pax yields are higher ex MAD than from FRA).

The most flights ex Mad are completly full and this counts also for the LAN Ecuador B-767 flights MAD-GYE (3weekly). These flights will be up to 6 weekly
in June and FRA-MAD-SCL will be daily again by July/August04.

Cheers

And LAN is one of the airlines that has very good feederservice from 6,000 german cities to FRA - for little money or maybe without fee.
So this is only a part to help them filling a plane.

Lan has very good fares from FRA to MAD to fill up the seats. Main Pax traffic is local to MAD. Fare starts from € 97 plus Tax for rountrip FRA-MAD-FRA on a A-340, depends season.

What about the departure times of the Lan Ecuador flight to GYE ex MAD? Can you actually connect at MAD if you take the LA flight from FRA to MAD? In other words, do you find the Lan Ecuador code on the LAs FRA-MAD sector?

You can´t connect at the moment due the flight leaves at 10.20am. To early to connect from Germany, sometimes some Pax will stay for one night on own expense in MAD. Due such high loads ex MAD LAN must not push any sales ex Germany at the moment. In Spain alone are about 2million Ecuatorians. That´s alone a huge market. LAN Ecuador is so far no Oneworld member due LAN owns less than 50% of the company (so it´s not automactially Member)they can`t due any codeshare. Oneworld will decide this year if LAn Ecuador will join Oneworld or not the same is for LAN Dominicana. IB & AA they have a heavy influence in those decisions due those markets are very important for them (IB in Ecuador & AA Dom .Republic)

So the Codeshare situation is quite tricky at the moment. At the moment they are working together so some routes with Spanair.

I might be getting a little off-topic right now, but still...

In january 2003 I read an article in a peruvian newspapaer that both Lan Peru and AeroContinente had applied for the right (or have been granted rights.. sorry, can't really remember) to fly from LIM to MAD, but still today there is no such flight. Maybe one of you guys, who's a little more inside LAN, can say something about it. Now that Lan Peru is expanding its international (southamerican) network is there a chance to see them flying to MAD as well?

I could imagine that that route could work as well as the GYE-MAD route.

Lan Chile has apparently an accord with Atlas. I heard as a rumor that an Atlas 747F will be painted in Lan Chile colours.

Fralim:

At this moment, it seems that LanPeru serves MAD only via GYE. Regarding their website, this service ends 26th March. But I have no idea what might come then.

The last thing I heard about Aero Continente's plans for MAD was, that they wanted to codeshare with Aero Postal, meaning that Aero Continente would fly from LIM to CCS vv. and Aero Postal from CCS to MAD with an Aero Continente flight number as Aero Continente doesn't have the equipment to fly LIM-MAD nonstop. An Aero Continente employee told me about this plan, but this was back in 2002, so I'm not sure if they have still the same plans today.

There are plans for this year to get LAN Peru to MAD in addtion to the XL Flights.
At the moment the B-767 goes MAD-GYE as XL(Lan Ecuador) & GYE-LIM-SCL as LP (Lan Peru).
Lan is still looking for some more B-767-300 to cover those flights.

We will see!!!!!
