Snowflake To Beirut Is A Sellout!

Wed Feb 18, 2004 11:51 pm

As reported earlier, Snowflake has quickly sold out most of its tickets to Beirut in the months of May, June, and July of this summer. This post is to update that Stockholm as well has also sold out now for the month of June! Additionally there are several days in May and July that are also sold out from Stockholm.

Snowflake has also been successful on several other routes to popular southern European destinations such as Malaga, Split, Alicante, and Bilbao.

Next month, Snowflake will inaugurate a flight from CPH to BEY on March 29, that flight is sold out too. Should we expect additional frequencies? Will SAS lend out their 330/340 to make up for the lack of capacity?

As we don't know, what the yield and the production costs of Snowflake on this route are, we can only speculate... I highly doubt however, that SK widebody equipment will be substituted, because the block hour costs of the A330 and A340 in lwo-density seating are certainly higher than the revenue these low cost fares will generate.

While they may not add the widebodies (although it's not impossible), I'm more likely to think they'll add freqencies. Nice to see BEY doing so well.

Any chance this will be upgraded to a SAS 321?

They can't be charging enough if their flights are full, in some cases several months in advance. Sounds like they need some new Yield Management software.  Big grin

They cannot use the A333 and A343 on Snowflake.

Their A333s and 343s are fully utilized. They are going to Shanghai and reduces Bangkok...not enough aircrafts. They might get more A343 if the situation getting better.  Big grin
Let's just blame it on yields.

The next month Snowflake will also introduce a direct flight from Stockholm to Venice. Last year the passengers that flew from VCE to ARN were 26.000 without a direct flight and just in a one way.. Smile

This Snowflake flight to Beirut is only once a week, right? I don't think they want to mess up the Snowflake brand with different aircraft types and levels of service, it's the 737 or nuffink.

VCE, 26,000 pax is only one RJ a day.

It looks like these tickets have been snapped up by consolidators or tour operators. There's no way they can sell all seats for the entire summer on both the CPH and ARN routes. I couldn't be possible.

Yegbey01

Considering that there are only 5 Snowflake flights to BEY in June it is very possible that the tickets are sold out to revenue passengers only. Remember that Snowflake is not on the CRS so consolidators can not snatch up those tickets like they can for SK, LH, etc...Snowflake tickets are ONLY available through their website or their telephone reservation centres. This has been discussed before, Copenhagen has a large Arab population from Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine. MEA has also sold out several of its first trips (I think the first three) and there is large demand.

There are a lot of people who wanted to switch to MEA that I know, when they found out MEA would be coming to CPH. They had already bought Snowflake tickets.

MEA321,

I was referring to the ARN flights. Theye are all sold out. It may very well be that some large Arab travel agency in Stockholm decided to charter all the flights ahaed of time. The tarvel agncy will then sell them at whatever price they wish.

Yegbey01,

I checked with another source and confirmed, Snowflake tickets can not be sold out to consolidators or tour operators, they are not on the CRS (computer reservation system). Same thing goes for Southwest and Ryanair (Im not sure about jetBlue.) Currently, the ARN flights are only sold out all of June and half of July. There are some others days in earlier months also, but overall I could see it possible that the general public has bought these tickets.

One thing I dont understand is why Snowflake hasn't added frequency to CPH since that is where the major selling is going on, maybe they are trying to promote ARN, or maybe MEA stole some momentum from them.
