STN-LCY In 3.45 Hrs?

Wed Feb 18, 2004 11:54 pm

I will arrive into STN at 1645 (from BGY) on the 2nd March, and I'm thinking about taking the 2030 VLM flight from LCY to MAN. I am wondering whether 3 hours 45 minutes would be pushing it too much, in view of having to get from STN to Tottenham Hale (around 30 mins by train), from Tottenham Hale to Canning (by tube), and then from Canning to London City (by bus). Do you think I'd be cutting it too fine, or do you think it'd be perfectly OK - assuming my flight from BGY isn't late (most FR flights are very punctual)?

Minimum check-in at LCY is very short - 15 minutes per VLM website - so you have 3hrs 30 to play with - it should be enough.

I think that should be enough time, particularly as you can collect your ticket and check-in up to 30 minutes before departure from LCY. Alternatively, have you thought about the 1915 Eastern Airways serivce direct from STN to MAN?

I just used the Stansted Express at the weekend. They run on the hour and on the half hour. It is possible you could make the 1700 train. I takes about 35 mins to get to Liverpool Street and get a taxi from there? A possibility as Liverpool Street is very central. Could also get the tube from Liverpool Street.
It all depends on when you have to check-in.

Thanks for your replies.

I have indeed thought about Eastern Airways, but I'm a firm believer in paying as little as possible, which rules this airline out completely.

should be no problem - considering also the fact that the 2030 VLM Service is usually late.....

Yes Pe@rson, in my time at Eastern Airways I knew we'd never see you as a customer!  Laugh out loud

Thinking about it again, your best bet is to go straight into Liverpool Strret and get the LCY bus from there. Depending on the time of day it takes up to half an hour or so to get to the airport and I think the fare is £6.

Haha, old Capital, and the carrier won't see a penny of my money when I become a lawyer. I'm sometimes tight-fisted with my money, and don't believe in spending it unnecessarily.  Wink/being sarcastic

Less of the "old" if you don't mind Pe@rson.  Smile

I could almost believe you were a fellow Yorkshireman with those kind of attitudes to money, Devon folk must be raised the same way.  Wink/being sarcastic

If you allow 45 minutes for each part of the journey, it's still only 2 hours 15.

STN to Tottenham Hale (by Stansted Express) - 45mins
Tottenham Hale to Canning (by tube) - 45mins
Canning to London City (by bus) - 45mins

Fat city.

Hi folks,

I've decided that, when everything's combined, it'll be too expensive. Accordingly, I'll stick with going from STN to Euston and then getting a train (for which I already have a ticket) to Bangor.

And I wouldn't use a taxi in London unless someone else was paying.  Smile

Pe@rson, you're taking Virgin Trains? Can't believe Branson still wants his company associated with the railways. Given that for the last seven years Virgin has been my only option for rail travel I wish he didn't!
