UAL To Start Daily SFO-PEK B 777

Thu Feb 19, 2004 5:10 am

United Airlines today announced that it is adding a new, daily flight between San Francisco and Beijing, China effective June 10, 2004. United will fly its San Francisco-Beijing route with a Boeing 777-200ER aircraft configured with 10 seats in first class, 49 seats in business class and 194 seats in economy class.

Currently, United Airlines flights to China include daily San Francisco-Shanghai service, Chicago-Beijing service and Tokyo-Beijing service.

In order to accommodate the additional seven weekly frequencies between San Francisco and Beijing under its maximum allowed 21 weekly frequencies, United will discontinue its Tokyo-Beijing service effective June 12, 2004.

Earlier this month, United announced plans to begin a second daily nonstop flight between Tokyo and Honolulu, and in the previous month announced new, daily nonstop service between Chicago and Osaka. In June 2003, United also began flying to Seoul nonstop from San Francisco.

It's good to see UA expanding its international service. One day I hope UA can overtake AA as the world's largest and can once again emerge profitable.
I hope that the service works out.

Note UA's choice of the "lucky" flight number 888 for the PEK-SFO flight.  Smile

I hope they start ORD-DEL either nonstop or via a European city by next summer as well as some African routes like LOS-JNB-NBO-CAI.

I think that theyve now realized that the big money is coming from Intl long haul routes where demand for high yield F-J class travel has increased so now the focus is shifting steadily towards that and the low yield European-Latin American flights will see a small cut to accomodate the much more lucurative Far East route expansion.

Good to see UA starting some new routes.

Is there any chance that UA will re-commence SFO-TPE non-stop?
