Has anyone out there flown with Champion Air?

Thu Feb 19, 2004 12:00 pm

So I'm flying on Champion Air from DFW to Acapulco later this month and I was wondering some things about the airline. First of all, has anyone out there flown with Champion Air and if so, how did you find the experience. Good service, comfortable aircraft? I know they have a fleet of 727's, which I have to admit that makes me slightly nervous. So what is the condition of the planes??? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Its a good little non-sched which will get you safely from DFW-acapulco and back. The 727s are well maintained, the catering is on the order of peanuts and coke, get an exit row seat over the wing,or facing the bulkhead for the most room. thats it. MG flies 18 727s,largest fleet in pax service in the USA>
the rumble of round engines is like music to me,likewise the thunder of thr JT8D

I think the Champion 727's are ex-NW aircraft. I have heard nothing bad about them but I really don't know of anyone who has flown on them.

Most of Champion's 727 are ex-NW/RC aircraft... which makes sense considering up until early last year, NW owned a chunk of Champion & the latter flew mostly on behalf of the NW-owned MLT Worry Free Vacations (which is who the OP is traveling with)...

I flew Champion Air from DEN-LAS-DEN. The DEN-LAS flight was early morning, check-in was simple and easy. The flight was on a B727 at most there was 25 pasengers. Flight went smooth, seats were all coach but the same coach seats you would get with the big boys. I too was a bit nervous, flying UA all my life, but nothing to worry about  Smile The flight crew was always smiling and happy. The LAS-DEN flight was as easy too, the crew comming out of LAS was just as happy. I might be wrong but NW ownes part if not all of Champion Air, so NW does all the up-kepp on the plane. I am not sure if there was any auido on the trip, I had my own. Hope this helps enjoy your trip!!

I too did DEN-LAS-DEN! It was an early morning flight. The a/c was neat and clean, but a bit cramped - hey, it's an all coach cabin. Nothing to worry about the 727. They are in good condition and are a good a/c to begin with.

Have a fun flight!

Flew Champion many times; always a pleasure. You'll like it. And don't be afraid of the 727; it is an old girl, but it is rock solid and "one hell of a model american".
In the Alaska bush I'd rather have a two hour bladder and three hours of gas than vice versa.

Last year, Champion Air was flying Charter outfits for the St. Louis Blues hockey team. I'm guessing you are not in for as much luxury as the pros get. The 727 is a great plane and you should have no problems. Good luck and have fun in Mexico.

Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing! It's a bonus if you can fly the plane again!!

I once flew Champion from DEN-PVR-DEN and the flight was nice except for the landing back in DEN. It was the worst experience on a plane in my life! We came down and were about to touch down when we bolted back up, the landing gear kept coming up then down and they did this a few times then we came down to land again and we hit the ground extremely hard and the overhead bins opened bags went everywhere and it was a real mess! I have never been so scared on a plane in my life! I was glad to get to the gate, but other than that the flight was good and the crew nice. I don't think that what happened to me happens all the time!!! Enjoy your trip...
