777s With No PTV In Economy

Thu Feb 19, 2004 6:37 pm

Last weekend I flew CA from NRT to PEK and back.

The 777 was comfortable enough in economy, but I was surprised to see no PTVs. Have any other airlines chosen not to fit PTVs on their 777s?

We were, however, treated to underbelly/cockpit's eye views displayed on the monitors for the first and last 10 minutes of each flight.

PS: anyone else think that CA's F/As are unfriendly and rude? Unfortunately I definitely found this to be the case on both my flights....

THAIs B 777s and MASs B 773s dont have tvs in every seat...not even Business class I think.

I dont know about Varig's and Egypt Air's B 777-200s in eco class though in J class they do!!!

JAL and ANA dont have ptvs in any B 777 operating domestic routes however their -200ER versions do have.

- MAS doesn't have any B773s. And their B777-200s all have PTVs!
- ANA and JAL DO have PTVs in all of their B777s. I know that from a reliable source.
- Varig has PTVs in every seat, Egypt Air does not.

Some other which don't have PTVs in Eco:

- Aeroflot
- Air Austral
- China Southern (-200 NON-ER)
- United domestic B777s

Korean 773's don't have PTV's and some of the older 772's also aren't fitted with them. However, all new deliveries are being installed with AVOD in all classes.

Vietnam Airlines doesn't have the PTVs in their two newest 777s that fly regional routes to NRT, SYD and MEL.

Sorry to hear you had a bad flight on CA. I flew them PEK-HKG on a 777 in 2001 and had a nice flight with friendly F/As and good food but without PTVs.

Boeing 777s flown: UA, TG, KE, BA, CX, NH, JD, JL, CZ, SQ, EK, NG, CO, AF, SV, KU, DL, AA, MH, OZ, CA, MS, SU, LY, RG, PE, AZ, KL, VN, PK, EY, NZ, AM, BR, AC, DT, UU, OS, AI, 9W, KQ, QR, VA, JJ, ET, TK, PR, BG, T5, CI, MU and LX.. Further to fly.. LH 777

I think the CA staff does not reach the standard, especially the ground staff. Those ground staff at the boarding gate are..... They cannot make a clear annoucement, and they seems want to throw the boarding pass to you after tearing off. They even do say good morning, good afternoon, etc.
