Cost Of Premium Economy

Fri Feb 20, 2004 7:24 am

I am planning a trip to Europe later this year from MEX and I am very eager to try BA's World Traveler Plus (Premium Economy). I looked for the fares in ba.com and found a round-trip MEX-LHR-MEX fare of U.S.$2,011.00 (all taxes included). I get the impression that it is too high and that I can probably get a lower quote from the BA ticket office directly or a good travel agent. Since I always fly coach (I only fly business when I don't have to pay for it myself) and premium economy is a relatively new concept, I don't have a parameter to determine whether this fare is too high or is a fair deal. Can anybody help please?
Next flights: MEX-LAX AM 738, LAX-PVG DL 77L, SHA-PEK CA 789, PEK-PVG CA A332, PVG-ORD MU 77W, ORD-MEX AM 738

it seems that the price you were quoted is the right one, since the premium economy class is used normally to compensate the full y class fares.

BA might upgrade you if you have a higher status in their FF program.

sounds about right, from jfk in the fall/winter, PE runs about $700-900, and in the summer months can get to $1100-1600 which is kind of low I think, because there are so many competitors on the run.

but as of late BA has had a promo to upgrade your coach ticket for $250 each way to PE, but that was only for US Destinations, so I am not sure if the offer is valid from Mexico, but it would be on ba.com under offers.

You may be able to get a lower fare out of JFK/EWR on BA premium Economy, since this is a competable Market, so maybe you can buy a cheap ticket to NYC, and may be able to get some lower fare out of JFK.

BTW, none of AF or KL have premium economy in the MEX-CDG and MEX-AMS routes, right?

And from MIA to Europe it's only BA and AY, right?

Virgin Atlantic as well.

AY only flies to Miami between late October and the end of March. It should be noted that Finnair does not market a premium economy product. It just so happens that on flights to Miami, full Y-fare passengers are placed in the front cabin seats.

And what is the difference between Economy and Executive Economy? Is it just a few inches in seat pitch or are seats wider, too?
